I know that this is terrible at the DUIL program. Granted, it's a DUI program, not a restaurant. However, the people there are intimidated by the "we will dismiss you, and phone your probation officer". The board of health should do more about correcting the problem, then have the people there threatened with getting kicked from there. I think this place needs more people that know what they are doing. Too much power, so little knowledge.

Hmmm.... Get caught drinking and driving and you'll be sleeping with the bed bugs. Sounds like a great deterrent to me!

This isn't the 15th century. We don't want bed bugs with their diseases spreading throughout the community!

If your landlord is avoiding the issue you should call the Lowell Health department. Call immediately. The landlord has a legal obligation to help combat any pest control issues. I'm not sure where these apts are but if it is a complex style the bedbugs will travel from apt to apt. through the walls and the entire place will be infested.

This sounds illegal. They cannot threaten anyone with a non-refund and termintation from the program unless the person clearly breaks some rule as posted in their policy. For instance bringing in alcohol would be grounds for termination from the program. If it is true that they are really threatening people, someone should report them to their funding source or the AG.

I talked to a guy about the bugs too, and he was told that if he spoke with anyone about it, they would kill his family! Im not kidding you. Those nurses at the Tewksbury State Hospital are brutal. Did you know that to get hired as a nurse there, you have to prove to them that you are capable of MURDER??? Horrible! And to think the state runs this outfit!

I was in the DUIL program in May of this year. Multiple people had gotten bitten, and they did find some dead bedbugs. They were told by the staff that it wasn't bedbugs, and that thier complaints were not true. I saw the evidence, as well as the bites on the people affected. They were told not to say anything or they would be expelled, with no refund. Why would they put up such a defensive front, instead of dealing with the issue then, now look at the results !

I have seen it first hand! You are right. My big brother is in that program. He is a tough guy, but not tough enough to defend himself against those nurses. He had to sign into that unit and the first night he was there, he complained to the floor nurse about bed bug bites on his back and head. She told him that he must be mistaken, but he persisted. She told him to go into a room with her so she could see the bites. There was a big commotion in the room and he emerged with a broken nose, two teeth missing and a fat lip! When everyone asked him what had happened he started to shake and whimper about being bit by mosquitos. They had gotten to him! Now whenever the nurses are present he hides behind tables and under his blanket. I know you all must be thinking he must be a whimp but he isnt. Matter of fact, he happens to be the biggest and toughest member of the outlaws motorcycle club. So if any of you have family in that place, pray for their well being and safety. The nurses are vicious dog_like animals!

I was there in June of this year. A bunch of the female clients got eaten alive from those bed bugs. We got let go a day early due to "construction" bull crap. they acted like we were dumb idiots and completely denied allegations of bedbugs. what a bunch of jerks in there. They were more concerned with the reputation of the DUIL program than the health and welfare of the clients and staff

What others have said about the bedbugs is very true, along with cockroaches and all sorts of infestations like mites. Granted the building is ancient, but that is not an excuse for filth nor is treating the clients like lower class citizens because we drank and drove. Billerica House of Correction is a five star hotel compared to this place. Chairs are filthy, mattresses smell, kitchen is musty, overcrowded rooms, sweaty people all lead to the growth of unwanted creatures. My roomie had bites and alot of the females and they do tell them not to say anything and if they keep complaining they are brought before a supervisor who is a control freak and threatens you even more. You can't learn anything or concentrate if you're uncomfortable. This place definitely needs to be investigated by the State and the State Board of Health. How they have gotten away with this for several years needs to be addressed.

There has been a problem with bugs in that particular building for over a year. The director of the program has been fully aware of it for the entire time, but he did not want to spend the money to solve the problem.
During that year, clients who complained about being bitten were told that if they left, they would not a refund or their drivers licenses.
