Good morning Target Shooter-Once again my point has been proved-you seem to be the only idiot (along with "Smokin Sue" Menard and Charile "Bad Rug" Lombardi) who cares about what we do in between calls, our salaries, benefits, etc. If everyone was as upset as you, this forum would be overloaded with childish posts such as yours. You're so desperate, you even resort to changing screen names to try and get more support for your useless cause. Face the facts moron-99.99% of the population couldn't care less about your union bashing. Once again, my suggestion to you is go try it in some anti-union, right to work, scab state down south. Your time and efforts might actually produce some results.

Proud Union Firefighter Why must you post this type of garbage? Here at my fire house we are all concerned about our future, Do you not understand the seriousness of the city going bankrupt? I really don't want a pay cut but even more important I do not want to be layed off!! The judge gave us a reprieve, yet I don't know hear any one offering other solutions. If a city decides to file for insolvency then what? It goes to Federal Bankruptcy court and we could be really screwed, this you would know if you actually had anything to do with a your union. We do not need your kind trying to pis off the public with your ridiculous posts as we try to keep our jobs! There is a lot of union bashing going on and you are not helping our cause. My department must be a lot busier than the one you claim to be on as we do not have time to wash our private vehicles.

To FLY-GUY its not the Unions fault that we are in the mess we are in....The state and cities have overspent for years, we have negotiated contracts in good faith for years and both sides have agreed to them, The current problem is the State for years has overspent and is now trying to save it's ass, they are cutting money that was promised to the cities and is leaving the cities to clean up after them!

I'm not sure what the answer is but all this bickering is not helping any one.....We need solutions not finger pointing!!!!

What's the difference city manager or city mayor?
The fact is the State promised the cities and towns a certain amount of money that was added to he city budget and now the State reneged on their promise. I personally feel the State should bear the brunt of the cut backs, unfortunately this would only be a short time fix, because the State surely won't promise much to the cities in the next budget.

Pawtucket Resident-You need a little history lesson. I don't know how many years you have on the job, but I have 21, and my father-in-law had 25 before that, and everything YOU and I enjoy today is because of our union leadership. Guys like Frank Montanaro, Bob Lavin, Kenny Francis, and Andy Baynes worked countless years to get us the benefits we enjoy today. I don't know if you work in Pawtucket, but if so, ask some of the old timers on the job who we have to thank for what we have today-the cities and towns surely didn't give us this stuff-we had to fight tooth and nail for it. As far as Fly-Guy (or Target Shooter, or whatever his name is this week)-don't be concerned with people like him-they couldn't get enough supporters to fill a phone booth. In the end, the vast majority of the citizens support us, and most importantly, our friends on Smith Hill support us. Just remember when you pick up your next paycheck, it's the guys who came before you that you need to thank for what you have today. Stay strong with your union, and don't worry about the few raving lunatics that complain on these posts.

First I am extremely thankful for what I have currently, I have also dabbled in politics and many taxpayers that I have spoken to support Fly-guy and the rest who blame the Unions. You are correct that we have fought for everything we have at a time when things could be afforded by the cities and towns. I have also been in touch with the Union attorney who isn't a sure what is going to happen if a city decides on insolvency (bankruptcy). As this has never happened before!!!! Federal law as you know is very different from state law regarding this issue, bankruptcy court looks for a re organizational plan which almost always includes lay-offs. Look at what has happened in Ma. some Dept's have already incurred lay-offs and nothing can be done!

Take a pay cut and keep your jobs. It's going to get far worse than the current economic crisis. Be smart take the cut and be happy.

Pawtucket Resident-I hear where you're coming from, but where this will finally be settled is in the courts. You can't just roll over and play dead for idiots like "Smokin Sue" Menard and Charlie "Bad Rug" Lombardi. These 2 pieces of crap, along with Don "The Moron" Carcieri are self serving shameless grandstanders who come up up with these bull$%#* gloom and doom forecasts and try to stir up anti-union sentiment with the taxpayers. I don't know where you dabbled in politics, or what department you work in, or how many years you have on the job, but I'm very active with the RISAFF, and most of the cities and towns are nowhere near as a bad a shape as they would like you to believe. As far as taking a pay cut or facing layoffs, as a fellow union member, you knew the rules when you were hired-last in, first out. Unfortunately, you sometimes have to sacrifice the few for the good of the many, but there are always retirements, and they know by union rules and RI state law, there will always be a job for them to come back to. I'm glad you're involved with your union, and you're talking to your union's attorney-just remember the advice of somebody who's been here for 21 years-we might bend, but we won't break.

You dont cut from public safety. There are plenty other areas you can trim from. When one person dies as a result of budget cuts, what if its one of your loved ones or your property. Its ridiculous.
