Police said a woman in her late 20s was sexually assaulted in the Washington Grove area of Gaithersburg on Tuesday night.

Coincidentally, this is the same general area in which a homeless man stole a motorcycle in the Ridgeline Drive area of Montgomery Village and dumped the cycle at Morningview Drive in the area of Emory Grove and guys stealing cars and motorcycles are becoming more of a problem according to police and I have cautioned our neighbors to keep motorcycles inside at night to prevent theft. Our family have had to move away from some areas for our personal safety because of the theft problems.

Nobody deserves to be an victim, but there are ways to prevent yourself from becoming a victim and dressing provocatively isn't one of them.

Same goes for someone like Matthew Shepherd. Don't go home with strangers.

So if a woman wears a mini-skirt or shorts, she deserves to be raped? That's an appalling statment. It is summer time and hot as hell. If a woman wants to wear shorts and a tank top she should be able to walk down the street and not have to wonder if she is going to be raped for dressing "provocatively". I think you have a reading comprehension problem.

I said that no one deserves to be a victim...but, those that do dress provocatively or put themselves in risky situations (ie. walking alone at night) increase their chances of being accosted and harassed.

It's not about who deserves what...it's about reality.

Do you think if Matthew Shepherd didn't go to that bar and didn't go home with strangers that he would be alive today?
