Wow mom way to set an example. Your son didn't try to stop a fight or get help instead he took video to post online and mom is upset he got suspended. But not upset with him,no upset with the school! I know the schools are very up front about videoing fights,it is not ok.
I hope these other kids parents are not supporting this way of thinking as well.

I feel Allen should have notified a teacher or called 911. These girls should not have been allowed to continue hurting each other this way, one or both could have been badly hurt or killed one or the other. This is a word of hate where people should control ones self. There are better was of settling things than this. They are suppose to learn lesson in school, mostly this fight was over a boy!? How Stupid, the boys will just have fun and laugh at both girls. The girls should have been supeended from school and under house areast or some puniment to teach them to hold their tempers. Silly, Things that go on in School or the street tooo....4431

How about the girls who were fighting?/ Nothing was mentioned about their punishment. The boy was wrong for posting it on Face Book. But it sounds like the school officials were more worried about people seeing how the kids were not being controlled while in school. Sounds like the Principal should be expelled with no pay for 10 days too. He/she apparently are not doing their job. Now is has become an ugly mess for the school system and the community. It should have been handled with a little more diplomatically, then you wouldn't be making the news to show how not to handle something like this!!!!!!

schools are so afraid of negative p.r. and the public knowing anything. ultimate in paranoia. fighting is the problem, not the posting. principal has no grip.

Every parent should find what this kid did morally reprehensible. Kids should be taught to help people & do the right thing...not make sure he gets it on facebook.

Another big problem the way schools are run.

They will go after students for off track issues, however real discipline issues and matters are ignored.

Schools will not let Christmas carols be sung, or the pledge of allegience said, but have diversity days for gays, lesbians and transgenders.

The schools are run by the teachers union that have taken graduation rates and proficiency rated down.

Being politically correct is more important.

And yes the student in question if he was doing the right thing would have stopped the fight or went for help.

The school needs to re-read their civics books - Tinker vs. Des Moines -

"John and Mary Beth Tinker of Des Moines, Iowa, wore black armbands to their public school as a symbol of protest against American involvement in the Vietnam War. When school authorities asked that the Tinkers remove their armbands, they refused and were subsequently suspended. The Supreme Court decided that the Tinkers had the right to wear the armbands, with Justice Abe Fortas stating that no one expects students to “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.”

Please stop comparing religion to a person's sexual orientation. One is a choice, the other is not. As soon as people stop harrassing & discriminating them for the way they were born, they won't need special treatment.

That is a ridiculous punishment for someone who merely caught something on video. I really hope the girls who were fighting got a huge punishment also.

This is getting crazy. When kids fought what did you do? You watched, right? Been that way since the kindergarten. It isn't the students responsibility to break up the fight.

Suspending them for posting it online is harsh. What's next? Suspending kids for talking about fights outside of school?

Schools are now overstepping their boundaries. I even here of cases for kids getting punished for what they do and post in the summer.

He should have picked up his phone and called for help. This boy was wrong for his actions for videotaping the fight and not alerting the proper authorities. His actions were just as wrong as the two girls who were fighting!

First of all you're obviously brainwashed. I have attended many public school concerts that included Christmas carols. Public schools say the Pledge of Allegiance every day. Teachers and their unions have brought many improvements to education. The testing results show more improvement, not going down as you claim. Fighting IS a real discipline issue. How can you say it's not? The reason for diversity days is because of the bullying the gays have to withstand and the schools are trying to teach tolerance. Some students only hear the hate in their own homes, so the schools have to counter it with their own programs. Where are you getting your information? You need to get the real facts before you get on a public forum and spout off.

My question how long is the video? Anything other than a few seconds means that the ADULTS at the school were not paying attention. Sounds like the principal is mad because he got BUSTED NOT DOING HIS JOB!!!
Yes, the kid should have reported it but does not deserve the suspension if he has never had any other 'violations'.
To the Principal: I know it is a pain when a kid points out our mistakes & shortcomings but just because your ego is bruised & you have the power does not mean you should abuse it. That makes your actions worse than his because YOU are supposed to be the adult & act with maturity & not temper.

I don't think the schools have any rights to punish kids for anything they do off of school grounds. Allen wasn't suspended for posting the fight on Facebook, Allen was suspended for taping a fight on SCHOOL PROPERTY and not obeying good samaratin laws and seeking help.

If I was Allen's attorney, I'd point out the Rodney King case.

The only just punishment in this case for Allen is to have an image of a cross burnt into his forearm by a whack job science teacher.

So explain this to me like I am a 6 year old: what is the difference between what this kid did - video record & report; & what a reporter does - video record & report. neither get involved nor make an attempt to stop the 'crime'. Isn't that what TV (parents babysitter of choice) teaching our kids to do?

Did anyone else notice this kid's name is "Allen Allan"? What? No wonder the mother supports him, she's a nutjob.

I am apalled by the decision the school took on suspending Allen for 10 days with the recommendation of expulsion! That is really, seriously ridiculous! Allen admits what he did is wrong plus his parents probably punished him of course because they in No way, shape, or form condone what he did from their interviews. The school really needs to rethink the way they punish the children. 10 days is way to harsh first of all for the act. Don't you think a punishment with a constructive benefit would be better? I mean really what is Allen go to learn by staying at home for 10 days and God forbid if he gets expelled, that would ruin his whole junior year plus the chance for a sports scholarship that he could use for college! I could understand a three day suspension with some kind of community service on school property or some other kind of constructive punishment. The school is really making a big mistake by promoting this kind of harsh punishment. So not only did the girls that fought get their highschool year ruined but Allen who has so much potential to make a change in his life, get his whole highschool year ruined, plus the 60 other children who face punishment for their freedom of speech are at jeopardy too! So what is that saying about the school???? He knows what he did is wrong and admits it publicly and also accepts a punishment but not that detrimental to the rest of his life as he knows it! School policies need to change!!! It's the school's responsibility to protect the children and teach them...why did the school allow for a fight to happen anyway? and where were all the teachers? where was the SUPERVISION??? If that happened to my son I would remove him from that school because obviously they have many problems within their own curriculum! Making an example of Allen who has never gotten in trouble, a great sports player, a good student, and a respectable human being is just 100% wrong! A warning with 3 days of suspension and some community service would be a better punishment and more feasible.

Please, this kid did nothing wrong by posting the video on the web. If the school is concerned about what people think of it then maybe they should have more control about having staff be in the halls to make sure no fights exists. The kids that wore the shirts did nothing wrong either, I am a parent and i would think proud that my kid wanted to stand up for something they believe. This principal sounds like he has issues and they seem to be controlling issues. You can't control everything that every person does, this is a frree speech country and unless there is something in the rule book about the shirts then they didn't break any rules either. I say suspend the principal!

Public schools are not keeping up with private, charter and home schooled students. They have better test scores, higher graduation rates and do better in state tests.

The nature of political correctness should not be the responsibility of the school. I will inform my children about diversity and inform them about gays and lesbians myself without the spin the school offers.

If the teachers union would concentrate on improved test scores and higher graduation rates I could agree to tenure and some pay raises. They are a typical self serving union, taking more than they receive.

I have seen several people including myself have asked what happened to the girls fighting? The Principal wants to make a big deal over suspending the young man fro what he done, why isn't the information about the girls punishment being discussed. I bet they had nothing done to them. Kind of a double standard or that the Principal had a personnel grudge against the boy....

To the poster making fun of the boys name. You are a complete idiot. I bet there are some things about you that we could make fun of as well...Go back into the hole you crawled out of!!!!!
