Support your children. Give them after school activities. Even those without kids in the community should support. It's worth keeping kids off the streets and out of trouble. The ones who reject it and cause it to fail will be the first ones crying and calling the police when the "bad kids" are running wild through the neighborhood. You get what you ask/pay for!!!

So the average N.O. union teacher salary is $63,423. Then you have to add 25% of Ms. Teacher’s salary to equal the retirement contribution we pay for her. That would be $15,856 added to Ms. Teacher’s salary for a total of $79,279.00.Then you have to add their almost free healthcare insurance premiums….I would guess about $12,000 per year for family coverage paid mostly by us. That puts the grand total, average Ms. Teacher salary at about $91,279.00 per year.

Not bad eh?

Yes, no wonder the North Olmsted Teacher’s Association union prefers to lay off young Teachers and cut student education and extracurricular activities rather than cut their exorbitant salaries and benefits to balance the budget. Union greed on display.

The North Olmsted Teacher Association labor union is holding students hostage for money....don't let them win again or it will NEVER end.

Local Public School Teacher Unions, the Ohio Education Association Labor Union, the Ohio Federation of Teachers labor union, the American Federation of Teachers labor union and the Federal Department of Education labor union support the laying off of young Teachers and cutting of student education programs, student services and extracurricular activities to preserve the union contract.

Public school Teacher Unions are the problem.

As a student graduating college with a teaching degree next week, and a resident of North Olmsted, I will still not support this levy. The school board has shown irresponsible fiscal practices numerous times. Get a new school board and maybe people will vote for a levy. To sit and blame it on “the old farts” that refuse to support the levy is wrong. They appear to be the only ones with any common sense.

I will NOT be voting for this, again. Over the years they have been spending all sorts of money on stuff that's not needed. The schools have been poisoning us with bad decisions all over the place. I've noticed it while still a student and have noticed it even more after graduating. I'm not even going to waste my time pointing out all or any of them. If you can't figure it out you shouldn't even have the right to vote.

Story sats that voters "may" get another chance to vote for the levy?
You heard it here first, folks, I guarantee they will get chance after chance, preceded by threat after threat, until this thing passes. The smart citizens have already weighed in with a resounding NO!
School Board and teachers now threaten sports, extra activities, etc. I say make cuts and show some fiscal responsibility.
My checkbook's a little light this month, but there's noone I can ask for a levy approval.

I say if a child wants to play sports, or join the band or what ever organization requires money or uniforms and or equipment, LET the PARENTS foot the bill.
Taxpayers are so drained. Besides, the waste in all the schools is disgusting. There are so many drawing salaries that could be eliminated.
First they take away the school busses, then they take away something else, until it passes.

Why do they keep putting failed levies on the ballot, time after time?(anywhere) If something passes, it never is put back on the ballot to fail. They should only be aloud to put it on the ballot twice.
Also, didn't the courts say that school levies are illegal? And, my biggest beef- if you are not a property owner, you should not be permitted to vote on a levy based on property values!

The way Ohio funds its schools needs to change. This problem is not just in North Olmsted. Too bad the ones who lose are the kids. It's not just sports and arts that will go. The buildings will close early meaning No open houses, family nights, no dances for middle school and many other activities.Maybe we think it's not a big deal but it is to the students.Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for our community.

Have the Teachers Union vote on a paycut and see how many of them would sacrifice for the kids.

Our politicians sent our jobs over seas, which cost us our jobs and lost money into the city tax structure, now you want us to increase our taxes on money we don't have anymore... NO THANKS. Time for the teachers to loose their jobs too!!!!!!!!!!

The city is still collecting taxes on property that is rented, whether it being the renter paying the taxes within their rent payments, or the landlord paying taxes on the property. Depends on the agreement with renter/landlord.

Agree 100%. But they also need to cut the administrative positions too.

No, they don't. Not when the rest of us aren't getting raises because of the economy. And we pay for portions of our insurance premiums. So, sorry, no, they are overpaid. Re-read what he wrote. The union is responsible here. Pie in the sky demands.

My son went to another SWC school. The band boosters paid for ALL of the uniforms and instruments (although, near the end when the superintendent finally shelled out some money and actually bought instruments). The only thing the school paid for was the teacher. We paid for the buses they used to get to the games. Actually, North Olmsted doesn't need buses. Most schools are neighborhood schools and they can take RTA to get to junior high and high school. I walked to school, why can't they? They have sidewalks.

What are you talking about. The landlord pays the taxes. He includes that in the rent, not an additional payment from the renter. But sorry, if you rent, you don't deserve a say in the tax levies. That belongs to the home OWNER.

For those of you so concerned about the teachers' salaries, if you go the North Olmsted City School website, you will see that they agreed to payroll concessions, as did the administrators. And as a parent of children in the schools, I do pay for rental on instruments for band/orchestra and some of the clubs already do require "pay as you play" and my children participate in those. However, I'm more concerned about children losing out on all of the other clubs and activites, as well as the transportation to get them to and from school...when you're just under 2 miles from school.

They temporarily agreed not to take a raise for a year or two. That is NOT a concession that means anything. They want us to take a permanent PAY CUT, higher taxes, when they will never, ever take a pay cut that lasts more than one year. The North Olmsted Teachers Union is raping our city and attacking student education opportunity for MONEY!

We must continue to vore NO on every school levy or the situation will never improve.

The public sector unions are killing our country and the North Olmsted Teacher union is part of it.

VOTE No on YOUR pay cut at the next school levy ballot in August.

http://www.westlifenews.com/2010/03-31/nocont...

Notice that Teacher Richard Bauer, spokesperson and past President of the N.O.E.A. labor union, makes over $83,244.00/year in salary alone. Current Teacher Union President Darren Saylor makes $87,300.00/year in salary alone! Well, is it no wonder the Teacher union tells us to take a PAY CUT so they can lay off low wage Teachers to preserve their super- high salaries, almost-free healthcare and free retirement payments. And they have the nerve to say they ‘gave back’ their raises. The four N.O. Teachers running their union average $83,133/year in salary or about $108,000/year each including benefits. And we should bend over and vote ourselves a pay cut….for the kids?

http://noea.ohea.us/

This is why the Teacher Unions purchase Democrats in the State and Federal government. Democrats will gladly accept union money in exchange for legislating tax increases and pork barrel spending on public education at the expense of our children’s education.

Check the facts, YOU decide.
