A police Officer with the horry county beach patrol identified as Donald Edge was suspended with out pay for 2 weeks for violations of department policies and for meeting a woman while on duty. He met a woman while on duty numerous times behind the cvs, beach church, and the grand strand memorial. It states that he took his radio off while on duty and his gun belt two times while engaging in sexual acts. He got rough with the lady that he was meeting because she didn't like how he was touching her. He put his hand over her mouth to prevent her from speaking when she tried to say something. According to the investigation it was said that if he roughed her up, "why" did she go back to him. To my knowledge no one ever investigated why she went back to him or what was said for her to go back to him. I guess in the eyes of horry county if one goes back then it must be ok for one of there own to man handle a woman. Statistics show that hundreds if not thousands of woman go back to there abuser for one reason or another. It states that this officer talked this lady out of some monies and a cell phone because he could not afford one. He told her that he was having financial difficulties and that it is hard for him to find a meal at times. Her property was eventually returned to her as requested by the police chief. He had threatened this lady if she reported him for meeting her and for treating her roughly in a parking lot. He also violated using the county computer for personal use in emailing this lady many times while on duty for long periods of time. He would wait until another officer came on duty who would be "call responsive" so he could have the freedom to email her or meet her without any of these officers knowing. I can't understand how he can do what he wants and risking putting the community in jeopardy because he made himself unavailable many times while on duty. It says that the officer lied repeatedly to the victim about his marital/relationship status, his finances and his intentions towards the woman.

Continuation...

This officer being so rough with this lady makes me wonder how he would treat others. You hear so much about officers going to extreme during arrests to the point of beating the heck out of someone who doesn't deserve it; whether if it's built up anger over something in there lives and they take it out on someone else. Something did set this officer off and he didn't like being rejected by this lady he was with. She kept pulling her shirt down and he kept pulling it up. I would think that the first time would be a hint to him. He told her "how about having a few beers before the next time we meet". He was very agitated and gruff saying this to her. That was one of the last things he said to her before she left the parking lot. Not a very pleasant experience I am sure to be treated so badly and then to be told that, because the officer wasn't getting his way. It was also said that he couldn't remember if he was married or not. He forgot about getting a divorce and thought his wife got one. He also mentioned to her that his wife left him and he wasn't allowed to be around the kids. He secretly delivered a pizza to one child who was hungry since he wasn't allowed to be around the kids. Sounds ridiculous to me! That was a red flag to the victim and she asked for her stuff to be returned. When the officer would not return her things that is when she got involved with reporting him to the higher ups. One of the higher ups says "I see this happen all the time". If you see this happen all the time then why don't you do something to stop it. I am sure this lady did not ask to be treated this way or to be man handled by one of there own and was then told to have a few beers before the next time they meet. That would mean she would be drinking and driving for his benefit; if she were that dumb to take his advice. If this is something that indeed happens all the time in the department and not just something that a higher up was just saying; then obviously there is something seriously wrong down the line.

This man didn't care one thing about this girl. All he wanted was to have his cake and eat it too.
It was noted that this man has anger issues. I tell ya it's a good thing that girl got out when she did, cause she could have ended up dead. I would have knocked the "horry snot" out of him and dragged his stank behind in to the beach church and left him at the alter for sunday service for putting his hand over my mouth. I reckon his collegues must be really proud of him. Any time he wants to be tough, tell him to come and put his hand over my mouth.

This is indeed an unfortunate story. Sorry to hear about the unpleasant experience with a Police Officer. You would think an Officer of the Law would be someone to trust, but this wasn't the case here unfortunately after reading. Does anyone know if this Police Officer is still patrolling? It would be a tragedy if he did this to someone else.

I was in myrtle beach recently and thank goodness I didn't have the displeasure of running into any horry beach patrol people. This guy sounds to narcisstic to be a cop. Sounds like he has domestic violence issues if he got that out of whack over a girl pulling her shirt down because she didn't like being touched. The town of myrtle beach may ignore it now but in the future this guy is likely to seriously hurt someone at their refusal. Then you can look at each other and say "were there any warning signs that we missed". All of the lying and being treated less than human is uncalled for and playing on someone's sympathies for money.

He'll be out again looking for his next prey. They should have fired this idiot. Sounds like he's got brass balls to treat woman this way and to have an anger problem to boot.

I wish more people would seriously follow up on this story and into this individual's personal history.

There is much more to this individual than people realize, but he has been able to hide behind family, money, and the "good ole boy" political system. His threats are real and there are many individuals who are afraid to speak the truth because of the repercussions they will suffer as a result. If you think this one woman is his only victim, think again. It is a shame that there is no real protection from such individuals and the suffering that others must endure because a system is in place that looks the other way when power and social standing are able to protect such individuals. Ever wonder how many individuals suffer abuse in silence....... and why did she go back....... there are a myriad of reasons that you cannot understand until you find yourself in that place. Who would ever think that a police officer, or other decent individual would have such a dark side that resembles something you would only see in the movies.

What new article. There is not news article. This is a made up bunch of sour grapes from some loser criminal out of Charleston that got in trouble a few years back because he was drunk and acting like a fool, got in trouble and now blames all his ongoing problems on the police rather than looking at his drug addiction and taking actions to change his life and put an end to his downhill spiral. I have no doubt that he will continue to be the victim of everyone else and will keep crying the blues until he ends up dead or in prison.
Do we have cops that are lame? Sure we do but these loser drug addicts are a much greater problem than the few lower quality cops that we have. When we find out about cops being substandard then we get rid of them. Too bad we cannot simply get rid of these punkie little whining drug addicts as well. Thank God this one is Charleston’s problem and not ours.

So you people can join this victim drug addict and his little river buddy and fall for their hoax or you can read between the lines and be just a little bit smarter than these two are expecting you to be.
I could care less either way.

Not sure who you are calling a drug addict but there are no drug addicts here. Also I am not a "he" and the last time I checked I was a "she". Get your facts straight before spewing your hate and false comments. No wonder your town is so screwed up with all the out of control crime and crap that goes on.

You are exactly right. I feel very certain that this Officer has done this before. She was told somethings by another Officer that became her friend and allie which confirmed what she thought all along. However, it's ashame that a supervisor in there department would discourage a victim of bringing charges against the one who is doing the abuse. Just because she went back that makes it OK for on of there Officers who's suppose to be representing a department to do this to someone. It is absolutely ridiculous. And then the supervisor even mentioning "I see this happen all the time". Why would anyone who works for a police department make that comment to someone. It obviously isn't giving there department a good name by no means. I mean they weren't talking about the local Cracker Barrel where they see this happen all the time. Like I said before if they see this happen all the time, I sure the hell wouldn't be mentioning it to anyone especially to a complaintant.

One of the supervisors was blabbing about what the officer got as punishment but it's all suppose to be a secret and internal affair blah blah blah. There was no original newspaper article on this even though Sun News tried to get info from the station. They were being tight lipped about it and gave Sun News no info. But a supervisor can blab about what punishment he got but they won't make it public. I guess the supervisor doesn't want to get in trouble for saying so much about something that was suppose to be internal. Nothing like saving there butt I guess. There were so many leaks for something to be so secretive. They can turn the other check all they want, but when this officer decides to pop off his hateful temper towards another human being; it will all rest on the shoulders of the department. SLED should come through there and get rid of all the weak links and no gooders and get the department back in descent standings. If this happened within the Myrtle Beach Police Dept Chief Gall wouldn't put up with this crap. He runs a top notch department unlike others.

No wonder your town is so screwed up with all the out of control crime and crap that goes on.
Do not for one second think that we do not read about all of the Charleston Crime.
Should you not spend more time studying than spreading your garbage on the net?
Funny how you accuse me of spewing hate. Got a mirror?
You need to look at your hypocrisy.
Charleston is not crime free. No one is as bad as Murder Beach but you have had a lot of nasty things going on in Charleston lately.
But more important is you’re accusing me of spreading hate when it should be clear to everyone that you are on your own personal crusade to crucify this man.
You are saying that the prosecutor, SLED and Horry County refused to do anything about the so called allegations.
That leads me to believe that there was no evidence.
All I am left with is to wonder if we do not have some mentally ill person out there that only knows how to be stuck in a victim role and has not found a way to recovery and a way to move on.
Either way this is not healthy and accomplishes nothing. The more you keep reliving the past without some kind of recovery support base the more you keep being enmeshed in all that negative energy.
It is a free county so go ahead and keep doing what you have been doing and keep getting the same results.
Lots of luck, let me know how it all turns out.

Gee Nightshift that's the best you can do. I mean really! Every response I have read of yours on other peoples postings is extremely negative and you sure the hell don't know what you're talking about. For one thing I don't live in Charleston so get your facts straight before you spew your hate and careless attitude towards me. This is an article that is taken seriously by educated people. It's people like you with sorry ass comments that take away from the real problem in your our area. Domestic Violence is a big issue regardless if you like it or not or want to hear about it or not. No one asked you to stop by and make an uneducated lash out at a serious topic. I mean, wasn't there a police officer arrested for domestic violence.. lets see Monday? The problem with this story is this officer was in uniform and the one that was arrested was not. I rest my case. But in the mean time learn to get your facts straight I know that may require you to use your head a little but I'm sure you can do it. I'm surprised you even wrote again going down your negative road. Since you did say "I could careless one way or the other". This is why crime happens because people like you could care less one way or the other. You should look in the mirror about someone being "mentally ill" before calling someone you don't know ill. You have a harsh way about yourself especially reading some of your responses on other pages. Poor people that have to endure your hateful attitude. Your setting a terrible example for your area. I will pass this along to the victim or victims. Thanks for your concern!
