Why does Pit Bulls get the bad rap? Does the actions of some dogs have to condemn the breed of dog. There are other breeds of dogs just as dangerous. It's the owners of the dogs that are dangerous they are the ones making them that way.

I think pits are just lovable dogs they only treat people in the way you treat them. Why are there so many people aginst a breed of wonderful dogs. Dont be mean to them they wont be mean to you or others. Mine was a lovable boy....

People need to be held responsible for their own animals no matter what breed. I could make a Silkie mean if I was that type of person. Would God be please at the extinction of a innocent animal due to man's evil ways? Animals are no different then children, they are dependent on adults to take care of them and treat them right. Let's get some laws that protect the animal not destory it!

I have a pit bull and i'M REALLY AFRAID OF A BAN. I WON'T GIVE HER UP AS EASILY AS THE PEOPLE IN KC KANSAS DID. HOW CAN THE PUBLIC BE EDUCATED ON HOW THIS ANIMAL IS MISUNDERSTOOD. WHEN MY SON WAS 3 HE WAS BITTEN BY A POODLE. WHY AREN'T THEY GIVEN BAD HYPE. MY BROTHER HAD A GREAT DANE THAT WAS SO MEAN SHE COULD'NT BE OUT OF A KENNEL AT ANYTIME WHEN ANYONE OTHER THAN THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY WAS IN THE ROOM. HOW CAN WE FIGHT THIS. I REALLY LOVE MY DOG>>>

I honestly believe there are good Pit Bulls. I also believe there are good Bears, Tigers, and Lions. But do you want your neighbor to have one of these running around while your kids or neighbors kids are playing. Pit Bulls get there Name from Pit Fights. They have the attach mood bread into them. They can't help it, but it is always there. I would feel alot safer if people had a special permit and live in the country with these animals. You probably haven't heard of any poodles killing people. I am not saying it has never happened, but the issue is that every pit bull has that strong attaching mood. why do you think people are not allowed to have pet Wolfs. In MO you can have a Wolf, but it can only be 75% wolf, and you must live in an unoccupied area.

I do agree that it is hard to give up a family dog. It is part of your life and family. You never heard about spot off the little Rascals going nuts and killing or attaching Spanky.
I just think that the people that have them need to be aware of the neighbor hoods they live in. I have a neighbor across the street that has a pit bull, and it is very nice, but they leave it chained to the fence and it hardly ever has water. Now everyone in our neighbor hood has small children. Do you think it is a safe neighbor hood with that dog there. I know for a fact that as most dogs get older they get testy. I am a dog lover and I have two dogs, but I would never own a dog that is bread to strike fear into people. Like pinchers, shepards, and so on.

i think you're pushing the issue a bit. Of course I would never want a child or anyone else to be attacked or killed by any type of animal that I own. I'm also not talking about every one who owns a pit bull. Obviously, they are not properly cared for and trained. If they have no food and water, they are abused and should be removed for that reason because they will become vicious. I am talking about mine and she is good natured and very sweet. She has never threatened to hurt even a cat. She plays with the one next door, who by the way bit her. I agree with 'Pit Pugs'. I would move to protect my pet just as I would my children. By the way, just so you know I'm not a rebellious child. I am a grown woman with grown children. I think it's wrong. It's like saying all of anything is bad if some of the like have done wrong.Com e
play with my dog sometime. It's pure proof!!!

I thought the main trouble with pit bulls more so than temperment is that their jaws lock when they bite which makes them more of a threat if they were to bite you than say a poodle?
Isn't that right?

Now that is wrong. The 'locking jaw' is a myth. It is proven that Pit Bulls have no different jaw characteristics than any other breed.

Pit Bulls have great strength
throughout their whole bodies. Their goal in life is to protect what belongs to them, if trained well, it is to anyone's advantage. The worst part of it all is that some owners must think that a bad dog is a plus in their lives to make them look meaner/tougher. It's man that has made this an issue at all. I have more than one dog, not all pit bulls, they are all as sweet as they can be but they do protect me and my home. If properly introduced to anyone I bring to my home, they are very gracious, loving animals. The fact that anyone is injured or killed by what should be a wonderful addition to their family hurts my soul. This is just another thing that has made this country a frightning place to be. I will do what is in my power to keep my pit because she is an asset to my life. She is always fenced with a tall, proper, fence she cannot climb or dig under. If only everyone would do what they need to do to be responsible pet owners injuries would not happen. have a good day. Gotta go work to feed my mutts!!!!!!!!

Survivablity Rate if a Poodle Attacks you = 95%
Survivability Rate if a Pit Bull Attacks you = 45%

Rates are based on one's own weight, clothing and
situational at best. Age also enters into the equation.
The lady that was mauled and killed last week was a senior
citizen and the attack brought on a Cardiac Arrest.

I feel for the owners of Pit Bulls...I mean I feel for
the RESPONSIBLE Owners of Pit Bulls. Good Luck.

btw I have no factual odds my post is based on.
I just find the comparison of A Pit BULL to a
Poodle laughable. Heck, I could be bitten by
a bug and die......

I do have a question for you Pit Bull owners and
Dog owners for that matter...

IF your Dog Mauled a human being that required
hospitilzation/ surgery/stitches would you be
against putting the dog down?

Actually you are quite wrong. Pit Bull's jaws are NO DIFFERENT then any other animals. It is silly rumors like this that give them such a bad name.

This question should be raised to EVERY dog owner in the world, not just pit bull owners. And to answer your question...it would depend on the circumstances. Was the dog being attacked or provoked? Were you trying to break into my home or hurt my children? Alot of factors go around a question like that. All I ask of people is to keep an open mind and learn to think for yourselves instead of what the media tells you to think.

I have a Bassett Hound and she is a little over 2 years old. You would never think that a Bassett Hound could hurt anyone, but they are very strong. She is always getting out of my back yard. I have a half fenced yard and a half 8 ft wooden fence. She can push the chain link up with her body and slide right out. I had done everything in my power to fix the stinking fence. I added poles to the bottem of the fence and she found other ways to get out. I finally had to purchase a electric underground fence. That seems to work now. But I am allways afraid of her not attaching someone, but jumping up on some little kid to play and hurting the child. I would sooner die then see something bad happen to my Baby (DOG). I feel for those who are losing there dogs. I would just move if they ever banded my Bassett hound. It would be worth the longer drive to work to know she is safe, and that no one could get hurt.

ya my question is pretty open ended.
here try this.

Some random person is walking outside down a sidewalk.
A DOG attacks person withOUT provoking. Person gets bit
in the face, 30 stitches and will require surgery.
Should the dog whom has never attacked anyone before be
punished or the owner? So now your next question is prolly
gonna be - Was the Dog in a fenced yard? yes. Was the dog
chained? yes but he broke free.

nevermind. dog owners will always have an excuse for
an animal behaving like an animal. I understand pets are
family as I've had many dogs and cats alike. It would be
very painful to put down my dog or cat but if he/she BIT someone
and caused injury I'd put em down. I'd also take 100% responsibility for my pets actions in the form of reimbursement
and pay any fines. Without question.

I see interviews with the recent bannings and 'amnesty' here in KC and my usual sterotyped mind runs on all 8 cylinders...sometimes 4 cylinders.

No, I wouldn't. I love my baby, but if I felt she was a risk to humans, which WOULD include me, I would feel the best thing to do is put her down. By not putting a dangerous dog down, it is like saying that if your child murdered someone, they should be free and not go to prison.
