I have a felony and even after graduation from a Technical school I still cannot get a job because they look at my background and they won't consider me for employment! It's so frustrating I didn't spend one day in jail, I paid my fine, did my community service and still I'm having to be punished! I know what I did was wrong but is there no second chances? I would like to start my own org. To help people like myself find jobs! There is a definite need out here!!

I wish you all luck, my son will be out of prison in a couple of months. He sold marijuana and received a 5 yr. sentence in Fed. he is not violent, he is loving, smart, artistic..... But yet he will have a hard time going to school and finding a job. Until this past yr. he would not have been able to get funding for school. Yet a convicted rapist or child molester could. This country has marked drug convicted felons as the worst criminals in this country.

Has there been anyone who has tried to rent an apartment with a felony
I am a felon and the only way I've been able to find a place to rent to me is by looking for HOUSES that are owned by a private owner. No real estate company owned or large apartment complexes; they always do background checks. Basically you have to find places that are owned by private owners and just lie and say you are not a felon. Lol but it's the truth. I tried apartment complexes and they always do background checks and always turned me down. Only apartments that will rent to you are small apt complexes that are most likely in bad areas. Then again it also depends on the felony. Some are more accepted. I have drug sales felonies and it seems that's what they hate the most.

That's already being done. Keep your comments to yourself. This is for people who simply made a mistake that need help. What makes it even worse is people on probation/parole face many more consequences if they can't find a job. They get violated and are sometimes forced to go back to crime to support themselves because no one will give them a job. It's judgmental people like you that create this problem

I am in the same situation. I did have a decent job after release of prison for 2 years as an Admin. Asst. but I have lost the job a few months ago and now I am having a hard time dealing. I have a soonr o be 3 year old and a child on the way. My advice is to go to school and talk to someone who helps those with records find a job.(this is what I'm going to do)
I have felony convictions in my record that I caught as a teenager. I then went to.school and got a degree. But even with that I get no were. I have two kids looking up to,me now and I just can't seen to catch a break.

How are you an "ex felon"? Once your convicted of a felony you will always be a felon.

Not really sure why convicted felons are having trouble finding jobs under this regime. We currently have an active felon occupying the whitehouse.

There's some hope and change for ya!

My name is Mae Hughes. I started this company due to the trouble I had trying to find a job and be taken seriously by potential employers. I went to so many interviews & filled out hundreds of applications only to hear that I could not be hired due to my background. After my tenth or so interview I realized that we as felons need help locating felony friendly companies who were willing to hire us & allow us to rent their properties . I also help felons locate resources that are available to them in their state. I do this FREE of charge. I know that with help or receiving vital information most offenders will not return to a life of crime & it will ease the struggles that are faced by felons who are going through the same things I did. I am working hard locating the second chances that are out there for felons. If you are someone you may know is in need of help with problems that are caused by them being a felon please contact me. I am a felon so I know firsthand the struggles that we face. I would like to help ease the struggles that are caused due to your/their convictions. I hope to hear from you…Have a blessed day !!!

The laws may say that an employer cannot discriminate against a potential employee based on a felony..........The truth of the matter is though, you will be discriminated against. Why would an employer choose a felon, when they can hire someone who is not a felon? There are less legal issues if a situation arises and the person involved is not a felon. The person who is not a felon, may be in trouble, but the company cannot be held liable for knowingly hiring a felon. There have been managers who have stated quote “I will hire someone else, anybody else, before I hire a felon”! The reason managers may give you for not hiring you may be many. Anything that will allow them to deny you employment legally. The true underlying issue is that you are a felon. You are a liability. We will not take a chance on you. If we don't hire you we don't have to worry about you, or how our customers will react knowing that we hired you. In management we can choose which college students we want. Do we want to hire the one with the 4.0 grade point average or the one with the 3.9 grade point average? Why would management want to hire a felon when they have so many other choices? Which brings us to the end of our interview. Sorry, but we have decided to go with someone else who meets our needs or is more qualified. I didn't even have to say, you didn't get the job because you are a felon. "Even if, you were the best person for the job and I liked you over the other applicants". Good luck to you and I'm sure you'll find something more in the line of what you're looking for with some other company. Thanks for coming in anyway.

A college degree will get you nowhere if you are a felon. Non-Felons with degrees are having a hard time finding jobs. I'm a felon, 3.6 GPA, Deans list, Bachelors Degree, Etc, and can't pass a background check, or make it to an interview if I mark FELON on the application. Plus, I'm overqualified for McDonald's types of jobs, so no luck there either. One said they were afraid that if they hired me I would end up taking their job from them. Some may say that felons can start their own business. Well, in order to be self employed, you have to have MONEY to start that business, Whether it Be a brick and mortar business or Just a Landscaper who mows. Business tools, mowers, Products, insurance, and operating cost all cost MONEY. So where is a person who can't get a job supposed to get that money? Banks only give loans to those who don't need them, or to those who have a lot of collateral to back up the loan. So, how is this felon supposed to fund this business? I guess he could try to do one BIG SCORE / Illegal Activity and then go legit. Of course he would have to rob, or steal, or sell a controlled substance to get the funds he needs to start a legitimate business. He just funded it the only way he could.
