They seem to still be returning with the choppers and it is still 11:15pm. Makes me think that it is now a case of another one got away from them. It takes 45 min. to get an officer here in this part of town. They did that shooting on a property that has Imperial Hwy and Firestone on both sides. The Choppers started about 5:30-6:00p and it was rush hour and those streets are packed with cars at that hour. Hopefully, no one was injured or had property damage from stray bullets. Norwalk needs more Sheriff's and less of those public Safety people as there are problems here that seem to just grow and not doubt it will get worse as result of the economy. I recall a shooting less than ten years ago on Imperial across from the Library at man carrying a ammo clip. Glad Whittier News picked up the news item!!!!

police showed up just seconds after the gangs exchanged gun fire....then police opened fire on one suspect killing him instantly

Thank you for posting the info. I drove by Stater Bros around rush hour and saw the police cars and caution tape everywhere. I had no idea what was going on because none of the local news websites have anything posted. Stater Bros is my regular grocery store and it shocks me that this kind of thing occurred there. Again, thank you for posting the info.

Stacy, the thing I always find creepy is that the choppers are up there to look for someone and they would come over our house and then you wonder if they have chased someone into the neighborhood again. Have had people hide in between houses here and it is not a comfortable feeling. Further, call the Sheriff's office and they won't tell you a thing other than stay inside and give you a big dose of attitude. Their office is 2 miles from that location and it takes 45 min for them to get here if they come at all. One night they said we are busy if we come it will be in 3 hrs. Not a comforting feeling if you know what I mean and especially if you can't get any information as to what is happening in the news. Two sites have a little some thing now and one KTLA screwed up big time and mixes an incident in Fountain Valley with the Norwalk Incident! They need to get Whittier PD and let LA Sheriff Dept. go on their way.

How did you manage to get such detailed information? If that is what happened it has been coming for a long time. There is a lot of people here that will judge you by your car, color or who you date with the anglos leading the hate. The demographics of the population in Norwalk has been changing and if one reads the tagging on the local block walls it has been coming. That is a busy area traffic wise it is fortunate someone driving by did not get hit.

What the hell are talking about???- Whittier pd is 10 times worst. The people that live in Whittier PD's contracted cities despise Whittier PD to the bone. If you really know your facts, your going to find out that the truth is that the city of Norwalk city council and mayor himself are all at fault for having Norwalk looking like Compton. They refuse to put the money and allocate their budget where is is needed the most - THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT!!!! I talk to our Deputies all the time and all I hear is complaints on how the City Council and Public Safety director just wants deputies to focus on their stupid citizen (their personal voter friends) complaints - like getting a stupid cat down from a tree or giving citations to kids on mopeds....come on!!!. WHo's fault is it reallY?

Okay Noodles, do you have noodles in your head!!! Whittier PD is not better than the sheriff's department. Theres been so many incidents (and I mean alot!!) where they did not respond right away or they ignore you because they happen to know the person your complaining about. Whittier would have screwed everything up!!!

Autopsy today for man killed in Norwalk
From wire services
Posted: 04/28/2009 07:18:08 AM PDT
NORWALK - An autopsy was pending today on the body of a male who was fatally shot by two undercover Los Angeles Police Department officers who intervened when they observed a shooting in a parking lot in Norwalk, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. Monday when the officers -- members of the "queen units," a special crime suppression unit from the LAPD's 77th Station -- were conducting an investigation near Imperial Highway and Firestone Boulevard, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.
During their investigation, the two undercover officers witnessed a shooting in a nearby parking lot, prompting them to intervene, LAPD Detective Tom Wich told an On Scene Video camera crew.
Moments later, the officer-involved shooting occurred, and a male was declared dead at the scene, Wich said. His name was withheld pending notification of family members.
Wich said no one else was hurt.
Exactly what prompted the officers to open fire was not immediately disclosed.

Go ahead & disagree with me....everyone will, but I thank God for the Norwalk cops & am much more disturbed by the amount of guns in this city (& country) that I call home.

If you don't use & carry guns....there would be no gang bangers or shootings reported on the news every day of our lives. Imagine that......a peaceful society. Wow....what a concept.

Now the truth is coming out! 77th LAPD, sounds like near Rampart! Excuse me but to me and this is just my opinion, Norwalk Sherriffs do their job and yes some have gone a little over board but..they do their job and mostly by the book! I am not a hater nor a lover of police but I would rather be busted by Norwalk than any other station because i know they do their job and if i am being arrested i did something wrong! That 15 year old boy should have been taken care of that minute it wasn't no hollywood crime bank crap and they ave bullet proof vests that boy should have not been left there and handcuffed someone will answer for this guaranteed. Gangs or not that is someones child and you and i both know, a life is a life, God put him here for a reason.

I agree with you!!! Regardless if he was in the wrong or not the police did their job stoped the shoot out..But to just leave a 15 year old boy handcuffed and dead in the parking lot for all of his friends and family to see is just sick!!..Regardless if hes a gang member or not hes a human being first and deserves the proper medical treatment!!!! I really hope someone has to answer for their actions last night!!!!
