Review: C & C Pet Food For Less

C & C's food and supplies are not, despite the name, actually cheaper than other stores, except maybe $1-2 less than Petco. One customer said he had just come from Red Barn Feed and they were charging at least $5 less for food he was buying, but he didn't want to drive back there to get it. They have a wider selection there as well. Supplies and toys are marked way up (ten dollars for a small plush or chew dog toy is beyond unreasonable) and are usually dirty and destroyed. The store itself is dirty and smells like urine, especially the back room with mice and rats, as nothing ever gets cleaned. Sometimes dogs urinate on the large bags of food; since they are at the bottom, the bags get left there and forgotten until someone buys the last bag. Some of the food on the shelves is expired or close to it, make sure you check the date before buying. If you bring fish home to add to your collection and all your fish die (it's happened), the owner insists he's not responsible. His primary concern is to make money off of your beloved pets.
The employees and groomer are friendly and wonderful but not the manager. He is extremely rude and cares nothing for animals, except making loads of money off of them. What kind of pet store owner doesn't have pets of his own, and refuses to support local charities and rescues? He has said that he can sell anyone any kind of pet food, and if a certain brand isn't doing well one week, he "talks it up" to customers until they're persuaded into buying it, just so he can meet sales from that company. If something doesn't have a price tag, he makes up his own wild price off the top of his head. He unrestrainedly screams at his wife, employees, and delivery men in front of customers, and even raises his voice at customers. If an employee is helping a customer for too long, he gets angry and yells at the employee. If the employees of distributors make him upset, he tries to get them fired immediately. He has frequently expressed his dislike for homosexuals and certain races of people. As soon as a larger woman walks away, he turns to people nearby and makes offensive comments and jokes about her weight even if she is a loyal customer or friend.
Please don't support this owner and his business. The owners of other stores love animals and treat their employees and customers with respect, are not prejudiced, and support charities and rescue organizations. Until a change of ownership is in order, C & C in North Hills will be the property of a terrible miser. Please find another small/family-owned store that doesn't reek of urine and bigotry to support. There are several others in the area that stock an even wider variety of brands for better prices, particularly Red Barn.
