Amtrak is pretty expensive. The same distance probably costs a third on Metro North. They also never have specials here, only in the midwest, where it's 1/10 of the price to travel.

Although the recent rail upgrade work is near completion, there are plans next spring through the fall to do a lot of tie work to upgrade the line. Hopefully this will encourage more passengers and speedier service in the future.
There is a market for commuter service, however the states need to get more involved.

The problem here is that the states are only concerned with what happens within their borders. CT is a small state, but one of the most dense in the country along with Mass, RI, NY and NJ. If this was a more regional effort it would work better than it does now. The North East/New England area is the most dense in the country but yet there is non-existant public transport.

Dear Ms. Lumsden,
What a lovely feature, how pleasant that trains are in your DNA. I hope it moves you to investigate just what the heck is going on with the proposed New Haven-Hartford Commuter rail service so ballyhooed a couple years back. If even you have forgotten that proposal such as to make no mention of it here, what of the rest of our region?

The website on the project has been dormant for 3 years...
Has the commuter rail plan been scrapped, what happened to any coverage of it?

Bravo for riding the rails! Now how about some more coverage of this plan?
