i live in the wellington community, which is on wellington st.( of course ) its the street right in front of the new golden pizza on chandler st. it may not look bad, but MANY people have been shot at around here and even a few have been killed. all right behind my building. you cant trust ANYONE here either, once i let this little kid ride my bike, he was gone for hours. my step father went driving around the block and saw that little kid putting my bike in the trunk of his dads car. and there are TONS of people in this neighborhood that smoke pot. and i mean practically EVERYONE that lives here does, and im not kidding! and to make it worse, the pit shelter is RIGHT DOWN THE STREET! there are so many homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks its ridiculous. and the people that live here... ugh, dont get me started.

The worst area is lower Pleasant St, around where the Pickle Barrel restaurant is - a lot of the people look like refugees from the old Chandler Jr. High school class!

I personally don't like main south (which is obviously a bad area) but all of those side streets near McDonalds all the way thru to down town I wouldn't wander alone. They are all shady looking characters. I don't really like driving through the area. I grew up off of Chandler Street and what a dump it has become. I am not sure where James Street is but there are some bad parts of Worcester off of Belmont St., Lincoln St., Providence Street, Cambridge St., Southbridge St., Highland St., etc. Stay awhile you will see.
Don't get me wrong once you know what you are looking for you can avoid most non-sense. Also, if you are looking for trouble you will certainly find it.....good luck

you are all joking right. you dont go down streets because the people look shady. you have all had one hell of an upbringing. yeah worcester has its bad eggs but for the most part there are alot of people here who are willing to lend a helping hand. those people who you say look shady are quicker to help them people in suits. swallow your insane fear and talk to some of these people youll see what im talking about.

Yeah it's close minded to judge people based on appearance. But I don't want to park my fucking car next to someone I can see smoking rock on the side walk... I def. don't want to live around that shit. I don't think it's too ridiculous to be concerned about potentially getting jumped or raped. But to the ppl that are all butt hurt, go take a stroll and find out. You're probably right that there's a super small chance that anything messed up is going it happen. So take it for me,'cuz I'm fine with skipping a street to get where I need to go if it means my chance of not dealing with the BS is way lower.

I dunno. I guess I just don't understand why it's so awful to want to try and watch your own ass. I'm not judging people who are homeless at all, and I have a lot of compassion for drug addicts. But that doesn't mean I want a crack head rifling through my shit so he can feed his addiction, either.

Get all your shit stolen then bitch at people who want a heads up on crime rates.

BTW, I think Worcester, as a whole is a pretty safe city. Some streets are worse than others but overall it's not bad. If you're concerned you might want to be careful with the Valley/ Main south, but it seems like they've cleaned up a bit in the past few years.

I've lived in the Suburbs of Worcester for many years. SO I can tell you that Worcester is not a place you would want to live. It's a Filthy disgusting City. The only liveable area may be Northern Areas, bordering Holden, and Paxton. In the 70's. there used to be weekly Murders and gang Wars down In Great Brook Valley, Lincoln Street, and Curtis. T&G stopped printing the murders, because residents were leaving in Droves, because of Fear of Crime. It's actually tamer than it was in those days, but the Drug problem is much much worse. Cops won't even respond to that area. They gave up aloooong time ago. Whites are still leaving, but its the ADHD Impoverished Hispanic and Black population moving in now. City is a Ghetto. 40 Years ago I thought things could turn around, but now I beleive its a lost cause.

Murders weekly, break in and entering everyday, jumping, shootings, stabbing, domestic disputes, double homicides, rape. I just about everything u can think of is here in worcester. People have been shot and killed on the front steps of city hall, and the other day someone was viciously stabbed so many times on the street corner that they sent a firetruck to hose off the blood in the streets. We don't call it murder mass for nothing. People want to live a nice life in mass, and then stay in the small towns away from the cities.

all this is a force im born n raised in worcester, every fucking city in america has its bad parts and ull kno the bad parts u dont have to ask online ull see burnt down buildings and tre deckers and abandon property, there are definetly alot of slum lords if your looking for something cheap ull probably get a slum lord that wont do shit for u, but thats everywhere in america. Worcester aint shit compared to other cities ive been to compton and watts and it makes worcester look like beverly hills, people in worcester jus like to act hard thats it, cuz most the ricans come from New York so they think theyre all more hood then every 1 but theyre pussies, if ur really just a sheltered stick up the ass pussy then dont move to south side (main south, wellington st, mount pleasant, maury st) and stay away from pleasant street and chandler street, and stay away from the projects,(plum vill, GBV (great brook valley), lake side) lincoln village aint too bad and washington heights is probably the cleanest projects. Vernon hill is getting worse and belmont st is trashy, but that doesnt mean ur gunna get mugged walkin down the street unless you do something wrong. although in alot of these areas u do gotta keep ur car locked because there is alot of addicts that will steal ANYYTHING, but theyre just harmless feins that wont do shit.

Let's face it. It's a total trash hole and everyone knows it. The only people that feel at home are the criminals. They have destroyed the whole city. So make sure they get their well deserved entitlements for doing absolutely nothing.

Back 20 years ago, the dividing line between livable and problematic was Park Avenue. Anything to the west of Park was middle class, and family oriented.
Today, the underclass has crossed over, and has even hit Tatnuck Square. Worcester is going the way of Lawrence, Holyoke and Brockton.

Well, I was raised in GBV (Great Brook Valley). You cannot get anymore ghetto than that. As a child/teen, I witnessed drug deals, beatings, blurglaries. To hear a few gunshots was normal and to hear the police break down neighborhood doors was life. Its hood life. Worcester has some good areas but there are some mean streets within the city. Main South is no joke. You can easily pull out a chair in the summertime and watch crime run the area....the drugdealers and whores cannot go unnoticed. A lot of sh#t going on and the police needs to get pacing. Worcester is getting worse as time goes by.

Are you kidding me, your afraid of highland st.? It full of college students! The only st in worcester I don't care for is Wellington, in main south. I go to upper. Main south all the time and nobody has ever bothered me, ever! James st is fine.

Used to drive a cab in Worcester. Was driving thru gbv and saw a woman on thr sidewalk bloody, calling for help. Called the police, and a few minutes later, a patrol car comes by, slows down, calls on his radio, and then drives off. Didn't stop, or get out to help her, the woman later died. That always stayed with me. If the police won't help, who do you go to? Why do we have police? I moved away. I knew then, there was no hope.
