Isn't a community supposed to 'pull together' in an emergency? Since our community is largely owned and run by UVa, are they opening JPJ and other properties to people who are in need right now? VA is in a 'state of emergency' and JPJ can fit hundreds of people It has water, bathrooms, kitchen facilities and most of all, shelter. What are [they] doing to help?

As I read your post I am reminded of what the poor people did to the Super Dome in New Orleans and as a tax payer in VA I would choose against letting them have access to those wonderful facilities. I for one feel that we have given quite a bit to the poor (food, shelter, power assistance, cell phone assistance, medical care...) and feel that if they cannot shell out for their own hotel room or generator, they are just going to have to deal with it until the power I paid for for them is restored. Besides, maybe doing without for a bit would make them grateful for all that the providers of the area give to them...yeah right...we need to be on alert for looting instead.

Tom, you are a giant ASS and I bet you haven't lost your elecetric. Not only the poor but alot of "middle class" people can't afford to go a motel for multiple days either. Also, what about the family pets.

Your Great Tom I am a hard working dad and I would love to put my kids in a hotel for 3-4 days or however long but not everyone have the money for that, Its why the world is the way it is because of non caring people like you, Look in the mirror and get over yourself.

How dare you post a comment like this. Do you realize that many of us working class people who have never asked or received a handout a day in our lives are without power and water and do not have $100 per night or more to stay in a hotel. It is people like you who throughorly disgust me. Especially in a time like this. This whole situation is stressful enough for everyone without you putting your two cents in. If you don't have anything positive to say; keep your mouth shut. You are a terrible person.

Even if my power was out, I have 2 generators in the shed. Doesn't phase me any.....It's moron's like you that don't properly prepare that I have no sympathy for..
I bet that you identify as a Christian as well. Well some of us middle class people live in apartments and we cant use a generator. We also work for something south of a "living wage" and to be able to afford the prices that are charged in this town, wow!

The town and city have opened up cooling centers, the state has brought in extra water.
but these centers are not open all day and night. UVA should be doing more in this area. They have opened up the shower areas in Memorial Gym, Smith Center and Northside
for only employees. How generous of them!

Any Rickster you are just a troll on here to stir up booboo and you have done well.

You whining people about the heat, I came up in the 50's where there was no AC, power went out for days, had to hual water in buckets, you made do with what you had, we survived so why can't you for a few days without AC. God forbid. All this society is a bunch of spoiled brats. These people that have to run to a motel have to much money instead of putting up with a little heat. I bet you had to make sure your doggie and kitty stayed cool.
