The heck with redevelopment of these ghetto boxes...... The city should tear down most of NW Pasadena because of blight and do it under the authority of imminent domain. Put in a large park or something that will make money, not suck it out of the city treasury like the NW part of town does now. The NW will always be a ghetto if allowed to stay standing.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to start going after the slumlords who own these properties? They rent to dirt bags and day laborers,(cash income), pay little or no taxes, have subdivided unpermitted properties that for some reason the city turns a blind eye to, and now my tax dollars are going towards improvements? Helping to bring in more small businesses? Like the area needs another taco stand,( more cash business that again don't pay income taxes). And what if any is the return going to be?

agree, why is it that those that chose to kill one another and tear-up their community get the free ride? why not direct some money to the east side where all the tax revenue is generated to begin with? again, let's discriminate against those that carry the load for everybody.

Your thought or idea is too easy and would actually require work from city employees why should they work when they can subcontract with P.R. firms, contractors, the claim for subcontracting will be no pensions, medical insurance fees or pesky e verify issues ... Mind you the city if caught in regards to undocumented workers will pull a Whitman and claim " We subcontracted we didn't know ." ... The representative for this district has the perfect last name Gordo ... Translated into English it means FAT ... Say's it all in my book.

The east Colorado district is a diamond in the rough and is LONG overdue for some TLC. Take note at what Arcadia did with their area on Huntington Blvd near the 210 freeway by bringing in mid-range business traveler hotels followed by affordable family restaurants. The area is a thriving gold mine while Colorado Blvd. east of Sierra Madre remains an eye sore with dive motels and empty car dealerships. Start getting a return on tax dollars Pasadena and stop flushing money into the northwest never to see a return on your investment.

It's like potty training and not instilling all the steps ... You teach everything but the use of toilet paper over time toilet paper use isn't instilled so going around with a crusty bottom is the accepted norm... If you're never taught to want better and your life is based on generational welfare
the crusty bottom remains the accepted norm .

That redevelopment money should be given to ICE so that that area could properly get renovated ! It does NOT MATTER if it gets redeveloped / renovated ,the same kind of trash will stay around. The people with these BRIGHT IDEAS don`t actually live around here. What makes them think that it will become a "ROSE BOWL" dream ?

Yes,they should go after THE SLUM LORDS ! When a family in these areas rent a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment / house, they in turn rent a "space"to other illegals. When they buy properties{?} they have work done by illegals and code enforcement never checks them.

And why are they still there? I remember that when I first moved to Pasadena 30 years ago, I was shopping at what is now Cost Plus (I think it was Pier One back then) and I saw some hookers on the street with a pimp or two stashed in the bushes.

I called the police. When I told them about the pimp (who was a few feet from my car), the dispatcher laughed and said, "Yeah, we know, they tend to be there." No mention of coming and busting them. Those hotels do a brisk business to this day, everyone seems to know, and no one seems to be willing to make the effort to make it permanently go away.

How often do they file taxes? Here's another one for you. What district do the children of the hookers and the pimps go to school in? What do you think Back to School Night and Parent/Teacher Conferences looks like for the teachers who bear the burden of dealing with THOSE parents (who tend to be involved in heavy drug use as well).

sounds like you're speaking from personal experience, almost like you're looking in the mirror. So sorry so many step(s) were skipped with you.

El Gordo lives on Summit or Raymond where he moved a home on an empty lot some 10 years ago. That are area has many beautiful turn of the century homes that deserve preservation.
Spend the money on code enforcement, have INS make a sweep of the area and get rid of the gangs.

Just another example of tax payers money going down a big black hole, or should I say rat hole. So typical for the N/W Pasadena ghetto.

Oh Great, this is throwing vast amounts of other peoples money into the toilet. This sewer of Pasadena is inhabited by legions of illegal aliens, low end welfare trash and gang losers. Nothing will change without hosing out this mess. These people are the same reason Pasadena has crap public schools.
It's not the money stupid, it's the people.

So the City Council can figure out a way to throw away $25,000,000 tax payer dollars into a sewer. Good job! What the city can't do is use this sort of creative thinking to fund a new Ice Rink that would really help dress up East Pasadena, generate lots lots of revenue and tax dollars. A world class rink would put Pasadena on the map in the skating world. All that money is leaving for other cities every day. GOOD JOB.....Losers

We can continue to broadcast where the problems really are.But the clowns running this area seem to keep it as a circus !Code enforcement should NOT ALLOW for 2-3 families living in a 1 or 2 bedroom place.Hosing it down will never clear out the contamination that has been allowed for the last 10 years.Just look at all the vehicles that now park along these streets. Now we see more VANS which are probably used by "coyotes."These women go to the places where "free food" is being handed out.And their husbands/"boyfriends "have a full filled WALLET !Ride the ARTS buses and you can see for yourselves !

Every time money is dumped in to this area, it only took a relative short time for the area to return back to it's same old status. Money will not change this area. Remember when funds were made available to have a major chain super market built at Fair Oaks and Hammond area? It closed not too long after because of the thefts, robberies and shootings. It was so bad at the store that it soon became known as Fort Apache. So again, money will not help the area.

It's hard to tell if the NW area looks like a Harlem ghetto OR a Tijuana barrio. Either way, just bulldoze the whole crappy area.

What a waste of taxpayers dollars. Bulldoze the buildings and leave the lots vacant. After the rats kill each other off then spend MY money
