Months of chatter on this thread day after day and the toll keeps going up, hope comments aren't going to play the race card again, that's getting OLD and boring.
Very sorry about young lady.

When well Northwest Pasadena be declared a war zone? I think it's time... Marshall law and gang exterminations.

I feel so bad for this girl, i hope she will be okay.

This is sad. She just graduated from high school and doesn't know whether or not she'll be able to live and enjoy the rest of her life, because of someone's ignorant parents and their ignorant kids. It's obvious that they were not taught anything in life. Now she and her family have to suffer. I hope they find who did so they can feel the wrath.

So, I've been hearing alot about NW Pas. So this weekend I decided to ride my bike around this area to see for myself.

HOLY CRAP!! I was blown away by what I saw.

litter everywhere, even in people's yards where their kids were playing. About half of the area reeks of urine. I was struck by the large number of young gansta looking dudes, all Latino or black, just standing around doing absolutely nothing, all wearing white t-shirts. I was also struck by how few girls were out walking around, almost entirely guys. There are people stuffed into every nook and cranny in that place. I asked two boys if it was always this filthy or if a garbage truck exploded. They asked, "what garbage?". The kid was standing on a Taco Bell wrapper that had slimy food in it. They don't even notice anymore. I feel bad for the kids. There were once beautiful old homes which have been sorely neglected and run down. Loud foul music on almost every block. Car washes and fundraisers everywhere for people killed or to raise money for youth programs.

I don't think we should spend another taxpayer dime to try and rehab this place. You can take the person out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the person. It is obvious that the majority of these people don't care, so why spend the money to fix it up, when they'll just piss and litter all over the new stuff? I mean, you don't have to have any money at all to keep your own street clean, but people don't do it. Why?

Don't believe me? Spend an afternoon, if you dare, to drive around the area. Go check out the dudes hanging out on the corner of Raymond and Woodbury.

Absolutely correct. but I can hear it now:..... "Dad, I'm going over Betty's house to study, be back by 10". Then the phone call from the hospital. Very sad!

It's always been like that, in NW Pasadena. In the late 70's-early 80's it was even worse. In 1980 Pasadena had 40 homicides, almost all of which were murders, in Pasadena - a record. Guess where most of them were committed.

There's a direct correlation between the escalating crime in that part of Pasadena and the number of cops who are under investigation for being too rough with these fine citizens. Me thinks it's not a coinkydink.

I grew up in the area and had always stayed in the better part of Pasadena. Quite a few years ago I was looking for a new place to live. I made an appointment to see the place. Oh boy...I drove into the neighborhood found the address took one look around and said "no way!" I didn't even call the person who I was suppose to meet. I was surprised to find that a part of Pasadena looked like south central L.A. I never understood why being poor equals keeping your neighborhood looking like a sh*thole. What a sad existence to live in a neighborhood to live in such a rundown area and having to constantly worry about getting robbed or killed.

Rough cops are responsible forcrime increase? What an idiot. You see th black and tans in that area don't mess around, they will just bring in an army and it is all over. The thugs know they can cry to the NAACP and the lawsuits against the city will flow.

WOW. It's amazing how people can destroy an area. This does not sound like an area I would let my 17 year old daughter party in. I wonder if her parents had any clue where she REALLY was. Thanks for the description. Sounds like the San Dimas skate park.

Tell me about it! The big challenge has been to stop the cancer from spreading, and that's really difficult to do as more and more illegals keep cramming in with their "cousins" and spill over along with slum mentality into other areas. Same with the thugs. It's a constant battle around here in my own neighborhood with tagging and litter. Ghetto mentality loves to trash, for some reason. Some form of childish protest or something, but it just buries them deeper in their own sht.
