Our trees are our heritage, and provide benfits both tangible and intangible. They have no spokespersons except those who live near them and enjoy their benefits.
The easy and no doubt cheapest route for the SFPUC is to fell this heritage oak in order to perform the upgrades to the Hetch Hetchy, but that is short sighted and fails to take into account the importance of preserving heritage trees in our communities. One has only to look at the Atherton and County sides of the towns to see the amazing difference in the landscape and trees. surely the SFCPU could work with the residents, including our local expert arborists, to achieve a solution that would be a win-win.
