Your luck has to be incredibly bad to be crossing passenger train tracks at 2:30 a.m. and get hit by a train.

Not at all. Trying to catch the train and you realize you're on the wrong side of the tracks - try to cross in front of the train, knowing the next train is 2 hours later. that's the kind of situation that leads to a tragically bad decision.

Another week, another Metra fatality.

Does anyone know how many have been hit this year? Are we close to a record?

If I were the owner of the bar that served this customer too much to drink, I would be checking with my lawyer for the proper response to the upcoming lawsuits. I have seen the practice of over serving patrons in Highwood far too many times. As sad as this story is, at least this young man was not behind the wheel of a car, where his actions would have endangered other innocent people.
My sympathy to his friends and family.

Not familiar with the story, are you? He was not at a station when he was hit. Make sure you know what you are talking about next time.
