I am thinking of moving here with my family from out of state. What is this town like and is it a good place to live?

Big tourism in old historical city area. Lots of blacks, and crime is bad in certain areas. People here drive like nuts, lots of drunk drivers.

Stay away frome North Charleston area. Stay away from West Ashley area.

charleston has lots of 2 faced busybodys, they will harass you or target you for crime if you are from out of state or not overly religious. the whack jobs believe in ghosts they are so superstitious horses pee and make downtown smell bad and they slow down traffic. people will make fun of how you talk when they say y'all every other word or call you bubba. the list goes on. if you do move here buy a gun and learn to use it u might need it.

they will not read this whole post and will respond saying some asshat phrase like don't patronize me or call me a yankee or something else gay sounding then they will correct grammar and punctuation because their 8th grade education they got at clemson is something they are proud of, yet they are too stupid to realize that internet posts are not college essays.

I just moved here from out of state as well.
Its not so bad. I moved from a big city, and I dont like that everything seems to close at dark. The drivers here are pretty horrible. Cops will pull you over for doing 1mph over the speed limit. I was told to stay away from N. Charleston, W. Ashley, Ladson, Moncks Corner, and some other not so classy placed when I first moved here, so cant tell you ne thing about those. You asked about Summerville so, like all places it has pros and cons, but overall I like it so far. Its all in what you make of it.

I'm looking to move to the Goose Creek area as well. We have checked out Summerville and it is very nice although a little on the pricey side for us.

I'm really looking for an objective opinion on Goose Creek if possible. I don't have an issue with mixed neighborhoods, but I do have an issue with high crime neighborhoods!

Jobs are already taken care of so that's not an issue. I guess what I really want to know is, is Goose Creek going downhill or uphill?

With Goose C it all depends. Most areas there are not bad. The thing is with the Charleston area is blacks. Don't mean to sound racist if I do. But blacks are the ones doing most of the crime in the Charleston area.

Most living in Charleston are not even originally from Charleston. But the black people are. All the Charleston, 90% of the time its black people doing the crimes.

HI! I recently bought a home in Summerville. So far, the residents are very welcoming. I have to get used to being asked,“Where do you go to church” and saying grace over every meal – especially in restaurants. There are cultural differences wherever one goes.“When in Rome ....”– you know the rest. Will neighbors judge me a heathen when I mow the grass on Sunday? Time will tell.

The crime rate seems considerably greater than in my former northeast, hometown. Check out the registered sex offender data for whatever neighborhood you consider. I was surprised by the high numbers. Installing a theft deterrent system is high on my priority list. My former home had one. Fortunately it wasn’t needed. Hopefully, I won’t need one in Summerville either – but having one will give me peace of mind.

Money Magazine and other publications offer specific state-by-state tax comparisons. Almost all southern states offer lower income and property taxes than the NY, NJ, CT tri-state area. I pay about $3K in property taxes for my home in Summerville. The tax rate for the same property in NY would be $20K+. You can buy more house and land for the same money in southern states too.

There are trade-offs . There’s less tax money for “government-run” services in the south. The cost of living is lower and salaries are much lower.

Best of luck with your home search!
