When dishonest people cannot back up their claims with facts, they always resort to the ad hominem.

Is there a particular reason you bring up Bush?
I always find it comical how people bring up other examples of fascism to support their fascist ideas and principles.
A PARTICULAR REASON FOR BRINGING UP BUSH? Where have you been hiding out at? When an arsonist sets fire to the brush and starts a wildfire that consumes homes and destroys the communities and all of the fire fighters have to risk life and limb to put it out, not to mention the cost to taxpayers and the lost of resources. Do we blame the fire chief(Obama), and let the arsonist,(G.W. Bush), go scott free. Letting the arsonist off the hook only inspires more arsonist to set fires.

Will you (or can you) explain why you bring up Bush?

You can not reason with statist trash who worship the state and believe theft and murder are great things.
Please, enough with the bickering. Some people on here just want to get more information on what the lifestyle in Charleston is like. The reactionary responses are not helping. Can you please give a realistic picture of life there.

you think the conversation on here which has nothing to do with your question is annoying and probably just a fluke, it is not you will have to participate in this type of crap day in and day out. Me I am laid back and really hate politics but you will never ever be able to escape it here. An yes all it does is divide us which is why i would love to find somewhere where people can respect differing opinions, but alas it is not here in SC.

We are moving from the upstate SC to East Tennessee just East of Knoxville TN and the cost of living index says we will save up to $12,000 a year. There are many lakes and the mountains are beautiful. There are jobs there also.

Dont purchase property in the lowcountry for they will be under water in 50 years according to latest scientific findings on ice melt at the poles. Maybe you can buy a waterfront beach house in summerville.

by all means stay out of north charleston. it is a crime ridden hell hole, full of whores and drug dealers. the police have given up on fighting crime and prey on tourists and old people. it is common to drive down rivers ave or asley phosphate and see old men handcuffed on the ground while their old silver haired wife is crying hysterically, or a young girl being searched with her clothes being thrown out on the ground. i would expect such things in north korea, but not in north charleston.

Clearly Bill you either haven't had economics or failed it. Living wages allow employees to buy the widgets produced. No purchases, no business.
And thanks for proving my point,'facist'? What are you three? You celarly have no idea what a 'facist' is, just what Rush, Hannity and the other Republican neo-cons have told you. it is thier idiotcy that has destroyed this State.
Again, If you need to work, don't come to South Carolina. if you come with money, great place to live. The idiots like Bill, Bobaloo and Carrie all cry about the Yankees coming to South Carolina, but bring a dollar and they'll sell you Grandma's farm in a heartbeat. Of course after the oxycotin is gone they'll calim you stole it from them.
I feel you honeypot. Personally, I'm a "yankee" and I've lived in the south for a while. I've seen the good and the bad from both sides. The main problem that I see with the south is that people are ignorant---claiming they know what they're talking about without really knowing at all. The second problem is, yes, employers don't pay enough and don't offer health insurance. No, I'm not a "fascist" but I do believe as human beings we should have access to "living wages" and health insurance. Honey pot is right, because if we are not paid enough then we have no purchasing power which in turn harms our economy.

On the other side of the spectrum, the problem with "yankee's" is that they come down to an area that isn't there's and think they can run the place. They can't, because they fail to acknowledge the culture of the area.

People in charleston think arthur ravenelle bridge is bigger than the golden gate bridge but it isn't

It would help people in sc to leave the state sometimes and see what the rest of the country is like (or the world)

Also try explaining to them bigger is not always better.

Hey, I hope I don't get flamed for being a stranger and posting. I'm from California (definitely don't fit in there, politics-wise) but currently living in New Mexico, which sucks. I'm looking to relocate somewhere farther east, but don't know much about anywhere east of NM. I did go to Columbia, SC once and fell in love with it, although I was only there for a couple days and didn't get to see much cause I was there for my ex-husband's boot camp graduation.
What I'm looking for is somewhere where stuff grows, not too crowded (I know this forum is for Charleston, but maybe some of you know something about outlying areas), not TOO far from the coast because I miss the beach, and where I can find a job that pays enough for me to rent an apartment, etc. Do any of you have any suggestions?
We moved here 6yrs ago from California and its quite a culture shock! Trying to sell now and get the. Hell back out west. Just my opinion, but. If ur used to 24//7 anything forget about it, they roll up the. Sidewalks by 10:00p.m. Good luck finding a new home. Oh, no jobs here either unless u like flipping burgers, LOL , but no kidding

I'm a newcomer and a foreigner here. It's hard to find anyone do the job for you, let alone do it right. Mostly con artists and lazy people playing games with you, ignoring new customers at their own business' peril. So damn ignorant. They will ask you "where are you from?" just a sign that they won't sell nor do any services to you. After the 9/11 scam (Inside Job) it became even worse. Now I am not only a Newcomer plus a Foreigner, but also a Terrorist Suspect, a Serial Killer, a Pedophile Suspect, a Drug Dealer, A Spy, you name it, they have got it for you! And I am from Northern Europe! I've been accused and asked of all of the above, a numerous times over the years and grew so TIRED of that! I don't take these locals SERIOUSLY ANYMORE!
