a 16 year old child is a minor. the fact that a grown man allowed her onto his motorcycle without a helmet while he does not have a license and was intoxicated is negligence as well as endangering a minor. As a grown man of legal age he put her in harms way allowing her to do that. Whether she made the choice or not she is a minor he was supposedly the adult.

I dont think its right for this all to be coming to light on a public forum. This isn't the place nor the time. Both of these families are going through hardships and all that matters is the life's of these two young individuals. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families regardless of who's fault it was.
This forum should be a place for concerned people to come and offer they're support, not a virtual battle ground of who's right and who's wrong.

you have no idea if he asked her to wear it and if she said no. stop acting like you know everything bc you dont and reguardless what you call consequences he gets he will suffer the rest of his life knowing he hurt her. he is not concerned for him self he is concerned for her. and we as his family are suffering too. he is a kind harted person and everyone makes mistakes yes some are larger than others and some impact others but he did not do this on purpose. i wish you would all stop acting like hes a monster because hes not. noone knows why he had on a helmet and she didnt except for the two of them. i myself have made mistakes and im sure you have aswell. in gods eyes a mistake is a mistake. what happend to both of them is very sad. i know they are both strong individuals and are going to fight and pull through this. but please stop slandering him. he had no intention on hurting anyone. and no offence but who are you to decide if they loved eachother or not??

I believe this man was in the wrong, as a responsible motorcyclist I wont ride a passenger, wont have a sip of any alcohol before I ride and would never imagine putting someone elses life in danger without a helmet, they may be in love and be happy but when it comes to maturity he obviously hasnt got there yet, it takes a pretty negligent person to do what this young mans done, and we must all step back and look at the big picture, I pray for both of the families and wish for the best.

please stop argueing about who did what and whats right and whats wrong. both of these individuals made choices that morning that noone will ever know but the two of them. and now alot people are suffering with them. now is not the time to be thinking about what happend or ourselves now is the time to be encouraging the two of them to be strong and to fight. i know my brother is truely sorry reguardless of what anyone thinks or belives. he is not a melicious person. our entire family is praying for karyssa. please understand people do make mistakes. we all do. and after the physical pain subsides my brother will carry the pain of what has happend for the rest of his life.
it is not fair to him or my family to keep talking about him and slandering him. please try and be respectful.

So before you sit there and defend him,you need to realize that Karyssa is where she is because of him and his careless acts!!And please spare me on that thing you say is love they have because she is 16 and hes an adult I have a few words for that and love is not one of them. But I am praying for both of them to get better so he can recieve the consequences he deserves and so she can be with her family again. My thoughts and prayers are with Karyssa's family.
I could not of put it better my self...thank you very much! To Melinda and Julia...words cannot express the gratitude and happiness we're feeling now...though it may be a long road ahead..we have hope alive because of you two beautiful people...we are blessed every day we have with Karyssa since Friday morning. The woman in the van is a relative and thankfully her son was not in the car. She was alone and is very upset and also has been trying to find out information. Her prayers are with the families.

To Jeremy's family, while he has injuries, you have not witnessed Karyssa's. How great it must be for him to wake up and be able to talk to him. We haven't had that luxury. She has been in and out of surgery and is fighting hard. God bless Melinda & Julia because were it not for them his selfish acts would have killed her. He should not have had a motorcycle he had no license for, should have had two helmets if he knew he was picking up a passenger, shouldn't have been intoxicated while driving, and SHOULD NOT have driven 80mph swerving between cars like he was a BMX racer. He had our angel on the back of that bike and because of him she is doing something no 16 year old should ever have to, fighting for her own life. Im 18 myself, he should suffer consequences for his actions because anyone and everyone can see that it is wrong. Karma will come back around, it always does. As for her, she was a 16 year old wanting to get to school, and had I been that young again I probably would have gotten on that bike too. Just because she got on she didn't deserve what he did to her. SHE should have had the helmet not him, if he truly "loved" her than she would have. We've known Karyssa her whole life, you people know nothing as my uncle said.
GOD speed your recovery Karyssa, you're the strongest fighter I know.

The saw the accident on Friday morning and my prayers have been with the injured and their families--it was just a horrible thing to see. I am also praying for the woman who was driving the car. From my vantage point, I believe that there was no way she could have seen the motorcycle coming around her on her left, and I pray that she knows that. I'm not sure it is much comfort after being through such a horrible ordeal, but I hope she realizes that she was also a victim--her life will also be changed forever.

The fact that Karyssa is still alive is nothing short of a miracle. Let's all focus our attention and efforts on praying for Karyssa. It sounds like she has a fragile grasp on life--our prayers can make a difference for her and for her family. The rest of this can be sorted out later--the focus right now should be on Karyssa's recovery.

I too was witness to the accident. I was the 4 or 5th car at the red light behind the minivan that was stuck. Seeing the whole thing unfold before me was absolutely horrible. One thing I'd like to add was how it happened. For those who don't know, not only was poor judgment made by the driver to operate a bike without a license, possibly intoxicated, and to have a (minor) rider without a helmet, but also to drive soo idiotically. I myself am a motorcyclist and it really irritates me when I see other riders acting so carelessly. This person almost paid the hardest price for his carelessness.
As an eye witness to the whole thing, about 7:05 am, while sitting at the red-light (across from the old Burger King) on Everhard going West. Both west-bound lanes at the light were about 7 to 8 cars deep waiting for the green light. No on-coming traffic was present at light. We had just got a green light and slowly begin to proceed through light. In my rear view mirror I could see the motorcycle coming at a very high speed, he did not slow down, when he reached our line of traffic, he crossed over left into the on-coming lanes traffic and began to pass all of us. As he was passing all of the traffic, the mini van turned left after the rr track towards the hotels on the hill. He collided with her left side of the vehicle. It was the most horrible thing I've ever seen. I was so relieved to hear they BOTH made it. But let one thing be clear, the diver of the bike showed by his choices and the way he was driving the bike that morning, that he didn't not think of the young innocent girl on the back of the bike at all.
This was a life changing event for many people, the victims, their families, and yes even witnesses. I feel awful for the lady driving the mini van and pray she can see she did nothing wrong, it could have been anyone one of us turning left.
Karyssa and her family, just know there are a lot of people who's heart went out to you that morning and we'll keep you in our prayers.
