Sat. June 16th reflections

Saturday, what a beautiful precursor to summer, the sun, the greenery, flowers everywhere. After a busy morning of yard sales with my wonderful Wife of twenty years, we stopped at the old stone Church, here in North Brookfield, for their annual chicken barbeque. When we can home, my daughter being at a friend’s birthday party; I had some time to reflect on the day so far. And one thing I keep thinking of was, of one of the ladies serving food at the Church. It just reminded me of how many truly caring people there are in this town. So may say there is no sense of community here, but there are so many people, organizations, intuitions and business that give so much of themselves to make this a better place to live.
If I were to name them all individually it would take several pages. There are all the people who volunteer their time to the schools, such as the PTO and others. The ones that coach and mentor the young people of this town The Church organizations that work with the youth groups, the poor and those who are struggling with personal issues. Those that provide support to the Churches and the Library. Those businesses and institutions that donate money to help out the non-profits in their endeavourers.
All the people that serve one boards and committees, for little or no pay, mostly no pay. What we need is a little more of that sprit I saw in that particular person, and just think of what could be accomplished. We will not always be able to agree on everything, but we should respect other people’s opinions and their differences and their right to express those opinions. After all that is what America is all about. So next time you see a way to help your community, whether it is becoming involved in an organization, on a committee, or just stopping and have a little barbequed chicken. Just remember that a little thing can, in the end can make a big difference.
