Marty Meehan, the son of lowell who moved out the lowell the second he no longer had to maintain a residence here. Shouldn't we call him "adopted son of Andover" since that is where he lives now? By the way...how is the editor in chief of the Sun enjoying Marty's old house? YOU ARE ALL FRAUDS and I can't wait for Kennedy to retire so Marty can move on and stop destroying UMass Lowell.

I just hope Marty will remember where he came from and how he got his college degrees....not from a wealthy family. Earned his way with federal grants, scholarships and loans. I pray that he gives those like him the same chance he got in life. It seems as if his goal is to make UML for the elite only.....how can he forget us Lowellians? This really is very upsetting.

Couldn't agree with you more. He is going to replicate the same behavior that has been going on in the "arts district" downtown. Nothing but serving the wealthy and connected.

I wish we could get more honest and willing people in our local community. Its not all about looking good. It about making our community LOOK GOOD> Like the $500,000.00 lowell has almost thrown away for the last three years. WE the city of LOWELL despiritly need this half of million dollars but the people who are representing our city don't show that same faith. Why did these people wait til deadlines to apply for this money that WAS ours,, just NEEDED to be claimed? CRAZY thats what I call it!!! GET BETTER PEOPLE TO DO THE COMMUNITY JOBS, WE MIGHT GET SOMEWHERE...

What has happened so far that makes you think he's turning our quant little state school into an elitist instituion??? Give examples? So far, all I've seen is staff turnover, increased fundraising efforts, and an established vision for futher campus expansion. Just come out and say that you don't like Marty, rather than assuming his intentions.

I'll will gladly slander him too if you just suggest a reason. Moving to Andover doesn't seem like much of a crime. I need more.

We should have rennovated those mills and turned it into a section 8 district. Good Call.

I can't' say that I don't like Marty, because on a personal level I don't know him....he made a comment that he wanted only the best at UML and would be looking abroad for this to happen. What about the kids of Lowell that are great and average.....will they not be considered "GOOD" enough to attend the university? It's all I meant with my comment. Why are you attacking me? I only have the best interest in mind for our Lowell kids. Thats all.

I only have the best interest in mind for our Lowell kids. Thats all. I'm not attacking you. I was just asking you to clarify your comments. Look, as Chancellor, you're supposed to say you want "only the best." What is he supposed to say, in my efforts to make this a better school, we are going to strive to provide an undergraduate education for average students who's only option was admission to this institution."?? Look, at the end of the day, UMASS Lowell is a state school, and will always be the most affordable option for ANY “student” living in Massachusetts. Sure, perhaps they can create additional programs (Separate schools within school) to cater to top scholars, but that’s never a bad thing. The good students will have just as good of chance to go to UML as well as any other school. The whole mission of any college is to provide a top notch education to the best students and to do everything possible to enhance the value of their degree for their students and alumni. I was not a fan of Marty “the congressman” but that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the potential value he can bring to this position. Fundraising and marketing will benefit most by his presence… any advances the College makes will only benefit the city.

Not to worry, Deval wants free college for everyone in Massachusetts, even the illegals.
