This consolidation is a bunch of bull. The administrators would have us lose control of our schools in the name of minor efficiencies so that they can keep making fat pay checks.

School spending is OUT OF CONTROL in Vermont and many other states. School teachers and administrators are far better off than most of us who pay the taxes.

YOU need to block further consolidation and YOU, THE TAXPAYER has to stop run-away school spending. Our kids are no better off than years ago. YOUR MONEY is going for bloated salaries and redundant legions of administrators.

I for one am very upset to see that the state wants BVSU to join another supervisory union. I grew up in the Bennington school system and went to school in North Bennington Graded school and then MAU. the minute North Bennington joined the SWVSU the education went downhill. Also MAU does not have a great education program. Too many kids and they seperate their kids into different programs outside of the main school building. I do not want my childrens school to be supervised by one of these supervisory unions. We thought long and hard on what school to send our children to we looked at private schools and home schooling and the schools in Bennington. We chose Arlington because of the close community and it is alot like what North Bennington Graded School was like before they joined the SWVSU. Friendly and caring people run the school, People who know your children and want them to achieve all they can. I've dealt with the SWVSU with foster children and all they careabout is their numbers and not the children. Please all Arlington and Sandgate residents fight for our school keep us as we are. A caring school community.
please move north

If we are going to consolidate, it would be in the kids, teachers, and communities best interest to move to the BRSU. I'm hoping not to consolidate but if we go to Bennington-our prop values and children's education will be compromised.

Just say "NO" to any thoughts of joining with the SVSU. The political situation down there, as far as education goes, is purely dysfunctional. I taught there, in one building for 30 years, and had 7 or 8 different principals, and probably as many superintendents. Tom Gallagher was one.
Let us have our own Supervisory Union in Sandgate! How hard can that be when we don't have a school?

Having this many school districts is stupid. Maybe in the horse and buggy days it was needed, but this is just silly.

And the people crying over local control, you're just power hungry and sick.

BBA is private- it may benefit Arlington High School if the district joined BRSU in that it could possibly mandate that other in-district schools attend Arlington- how's that for ironic.

Would love to keep our own district but believe that consolidation is the way we're headed.

Get your letters out to Mr. Gallagher and board if you have an opinion of where you would want to move since the decision may be made before you have a chance to voice your views.

Sorry but no one on a school board is power hungry. Its too much work for too little pay. There are some very stupid school board members here and there, but that is not the issue.-- The issue for Arlington is that they have the choice of the SVSU or BRSU. The SVSU is running several failing schools, and is not capable of doing anything about it. Arlington does not need to regress, by joining that operation. The BRSU probably could use a high school they can control for the betterment of education in the county. BBA might be good, but they have the habit of being a public school when it comes to getting money, and a private school when it comes to complying with education laws, and thumbing their nose at other schools.-- Avoiding BBA costs is where there might be some savings. That is not directly related to Arlington, but it might send more students to AHS, which might or might not result in savings. K-8 costs probably will not change much by merging districts.

Are you totally nuts????
You find no problem with a 1 adult to 4 1/2 student ratio, that being either a teacher or staff member????? Get the hell out of here!!!!! The national average for student to teacher ratio is 1 teacher to 15.7 students.... Vermont's ratio is around 1 teacher to 8 students..... From a budget standpoint teachers salaries in Vermont account 33% of the budget... 280 school districts with 90,000 students is where your financial problems are at,
but nobody wants to do anything but biotch about their share of the pie.... Come on, that comes out to an average of 321 students per district, Hellooooooooo!!!!!
There is truth in the power of numbers people, consolidate or starve, your choice.... This makes about as much sense as building 3 more WalMarts in Bennington County...
You people have already lost control of your schools and are afraid to admit it....

And as for you "Dead Fred", your ideas might work if Vermont would allow charter schools, but like with allot of other things in the 21st century, Vermont does not allow them...
