Steve: It is nice you have a business in Pownal. What are you going to do when most of the Pownal people need jobs as I do? You need to think outside the box and get with the current economic down turn in this town and country. I remember when Pownal was a thriving town with many businesses and many Pownal people had jobs right in there own town. How many of the Pownal grown children have had to go outside of Pownal and Vermont for work because we are not giving "businesses" a chance to show the good they can bring to our town and state.

You are a perfect example of why I am NOT voting for Hap. The above is a total lie. You do have a job. You are going to write a whole paragraph of lies??? If you are Haps supporter, then I should be able to get a bunch more on my side.

The statements you call lies are totally truthful. I have been a Pownal resident for 42 years. here are SOME of the employers that i have personally seen leave town in that time.

THE POWNAL TANNING CO
GREEN MOUNTAIN RACETRACK
CORNISH WIRE
NORTHEAST WOOD PRODUCTS
JEAUGER HOUSE RESTAURANT
LADD BROOK RESTAURANT
LEONARDS TRUE VALUE
OVER THIRTY DAIRY FARMS
GMB might not be truthful about his identity, but neither are you. His/her statements are factually accurate.

Don't bother Steve with Pownal issues when he is having coffee with his buddies from Williamstown at Stewart's in the AM...... He doesn't like that.

How a selectman stands on the biomass issue shouldn't determine one's vote. A selectman has no real vote in whether or not this plant will appear. Just an opiniion for or against. It's the state that is going to determine 1) it is for the public good and 2)that all permits are obtained, conditions met.

I guess they have to gather somewhere. It's not on my list of places to buy coffee, etc.. Pownal needs a better place. Good place to local a new DD. You should look into it and move back home.

GrnMtnBoy you hit it dead on. It is not the select board that will decide whether or not we get a biomass plant. I don't think that a lot of people in town realize that. I know that Mr. Kauppi doesn't realize that for sure. He is running his whole campaign eluding to the fact that if you vote for him he will make sure that the plant doestn't come to town and if you vote for Hap the town will be forever plagued with a biomass plant. It is all FALSE information. Neither candidate has that much influence or power. I am not personally for or against the biomass plant. I am however interested in seeeing all the information before I make an educated decision. After letters like this to the editor, I would think that Hap actually picked up some votes.

Nobody should be "embarrassed " for having an opinion on this project, voicing that opinion one way or the other,or voting for the candidate of their choice. Town meeting should be interesting next week, see you there?

I’ve recently seen action by a couple of members of the board that doesn’t please me. I don’t feel it’s in the best interest of the people of Pownal.

Truth will come out

I am not a Pownal resident, but believe we need to get away from import forms of energy in this country. We've allowed the govt to give our country's jobs away and locked up renewable resources. We've become too dependent on others. Our economy shows it, and with the recent happenings in the Mid East, and the rapidly increasing fuel prices, it's going to get worse.

VT is not a home rule state, meaning cities and towns don't rule themselves. The State of VT by law ALLOWS towns and cities to write and enforce certain local laws and regulations WITH state overview. Montpelier can take that away any time. Towns have tried taking the state to court for more local power. It was ruled that because the state writes the laws that rule cities and towns, cities and towns can't sue the state. ACT 60 and ACT 68 are classic examples of this.

I too believe in getting all the information before making an ultimate decision. It's out there. Several residents have told me they contacted Beaver Wood and asked for information. It was readily given. Many studies still have to be done. All the information isn't in. Most of the infor popping up here are based on plants that are 20 years old. And some of these studies are studies of studies that are 10+ years old.
