The group of maintenance/custodians, cafeteria, and bus drivers who should receive a lousy 30 cent raise the next three years put a freeze on their contract for THREE years. They CERTAINLY do NOT receive free food or gasoline. Why didn't they wait to see what the other personnel were going to do or at least make it a one year freeze? POOR LEADERSHIP! They are the LOWEST paid employees in the district and they voted on a three year freeze! Shame on their LEADERSHIP and shame on the BOARD for even accepting that. This saved the district about $53000!; that's a drop in the bucket. You have teachers making that much a year!! The freezes should be ACROSS THE BOARD...ALL CONTRACTS. You have administrators making $90,000 PLUS; so what's a one year freeze to them? It's a shame the lowest paid employees felt they would be replaced by outside contracts and accepted that no brainer proposal. They were concerned about their health care. Don 't they realize NO insurance carrier wants different plans for different groups of employees and the BVA bookkeeper, payroll clerk, and business manager CERTAINLY do NOT want the headache of keeping different plans in order. Again POOR LEADERSHIP!

I called my buddy who is a teacher and asked him about what's going on. Teachers want to help but they want to know what happened to the 1.5 million check and the 3-4 million they saved the district when they signed the contract

Have you attended a board meeting? Have you heard THEIR remarks? It's all self praise and saving their jobs. They feel EVERY program in the district is necessary; why? They don't want to see job loss. Nobody does; it's traumatic. But, there were jobs created with support staff that we did NOT have money for and that's part of the problem we have now. We were in NO position to add all day kindergarten WITH support staff. Have you seen the salaries they were hired at PLUS health care? It was far more than than the total raise the janitors, cafe, and drivers saved by a 3 year freeze. In fact, two of the last hires were given salaries far above that $54000 (approx)that the janitors, cafe, and drivers would cost the district over a 3 year period. Don't tell me that the teachers want to help. They don't even want a freeze especially those who would be hitting the bump step. Do you know what that costs the district? Get the facts and get involved.

Where in the world have you been? The teachers don't want to act until the board controls spending...come on.
The teachers don't want to act because they don't want to give up those salaries or the money they make on the bump step. No district starts their teachers out higher than BVA. They want the board accountable for their spending; give me a break. They are in this position because of the teachers' contract; they counted on money they did not have thinking it would come from the state. Guess what; there's a new man in the governor's mansion. Are you aware the state has already visited our district and made propoals to help us out of this mess? Do you know what those were? You had better get the facts and not heresay. This reconfiguration plan is nothing more than a way to save jobs. And, if you are a parent with a child in elementary or middle school, you had best attend Monday's meeting. RT residents may have their taxe increase double over the next 3 years; there are no longer homes being built like before and the ones on the market can't be sold because of the proposed tax hike.
