i WAS RAISED IN NORTH BALTIMORE FROM 11 YEARS OF AGE UNTIL 40, IT WAS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO RAISE KIDS. WE HAD A LOT OF STORES AND NEVER NEEDED TO GO OUT OF TOWN UNLESS YOU HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. WE HAD TWO BANKS AND A SAVINGS AND LOAN TWO FUNRNITUE STORES THREE GROCERIES SEVERAL DRUG STORES SEVERAL HARDWARES AND THE LIST GOES ON. OUR PARENTS KNEW OUR FRIENDS AND OURS FRIENDS KNEW US. THE MOVIE WAS A FUN PLACE TO GO AND SO WAS THE RESTAURANT WHERE WE COULD GO AND DANCE AS WELL AS EAT. WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY EVENINGS WERE THE TIMES WHEN EVERYONE WENT TO TOWN AND BOUGHT GROCERIES AND HAD ICE CREAM AND MET OTHER FRIENDS AND TALKED. THE POLITICS OF THE TOWN WERE PROBABLY A TROUBLE AT THE TIME AS IT IS TODAY BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT IT IS TODAY. WE HAD SEVERAL BARS AND CHURCHES IN THE TOWN AND YOU ALWAYS KNEW SOMEONE WAS GONNA COME OUT OF ONE OF THE BARS AND TRY AND DRIVE HOME. THE POLICE WOULD OFFER TO TAKE THAT PERSON HOME (THE ONE DRINKING) AND THE FAMILY COULD MAKE ARANGEMENTS TO PICK UP THE CAR. NOT A LOT OF FIGHTS AND NOT A LOT OF ARRESTS. I REMEMBER WHEN THE SCHOOLS WERE TALKING CONSOLIDATION. NORTH BALTIMORE WANTED TO GO IT ALONE, SO WE WERE LEFT ALONE AND ALL WE HAD TO CHOSE FROM WAS OUR ON KIDS AND A CONFERENCE THAT CAUSED OUR SPORTS DEPARTMENT TO HAVE TO PLAY LARGER SCHOOLS. THE TOWN COUNCIL HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO MAKE THE RULES FOR THE PUBLIC AND KEEP IT LOCAL. THEY NEVER WANT ANYONE TO COME IN AND HELP MAKE DECISIONS FOR THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE. NOW THEY AREON AN ISLAND THAT DOES NOT HAVE ANY STORES TO SHOP IN AND THE PEOPLAE ARE TIRED OF SUPPORTING THE SCHOOLS AND SO THE VOTING FOR MORE MONEY FAILES. THE KIDS SUFFER BECAUSE THE JUDGEMENT OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE MADE THE DECISIONS FOR THE TOWN AND THE SCHOOLS WOULD NOT LISTEN TO REASON AND DID NOT APPLY FOR THE GRANTS AND THE MONIES THAT COULD HAVE COME INTO THE TOWN MANY TIMES AND HELP WITH THE EXPENSE TO KEEP THINGS GOING. SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE COUNCIL FOR THE LAST 50 YEARS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO SERVE. THEY HAD THEIR OWN ADGENDAS AND THE PROBLEMS OF THE TOWN BECAME SOMETHING THAT GOT TABELED. TIME AND TIME AGAIN. NOW THE PROBLEM GOES ON AND NO ONE SEES THE MONEYIES THAT ARE SPENT FOR THINGS THEY DON'T NEED AND WHERE TO SPEND THE MONEY TO DO THE MOST GOOD. THE PEOPLE THAT CARED HAVE GIVEN UP OR ARE IN THE LOCAL CEMETARY. YOU ASKED WHY I MOVED AWAY? I HAVE A HUSBAND THAT HAS BEEN ILL FOR 21 YEARS AND CAN NO LONGER LIVE IN THE COLD. WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF FAMILY LIVING IN THE TOWN AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT GROW AND PROSPER AGAIN, BUT LIKE I SAID THE ONES THAT CARE CANNOT DO IT ALONE AND THE ONES THAT CAN HELP HAVE THEIR OWN REASON FOR WANTING IT TO FAIL. ITIS A SHAME. IT WAS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO GROW UP.
