"The crash happened when the Jeep driver, who had a stop sign, hit the 2006 Harley Davidson"

Does that mean he ran through the sign?
Again, Newsday fails to report important factors. I'll have to find out on my own.

The Jeep driver "didn't see them"?

No, he didn't LOOK for them.

Driving is an important, serious matter, and people don't take it seriously. That's why we have the death rate that we have.

By contrast, when someone goes out to fly a small plane, for example, they take ~every aspect of doing so~ seriously! They check ALL the equipment of the plane. They follow checklists. They follow operating procedures. They understand the gravity of what they are doing, and the dire consequences that can follow if you screw around. So there are far fewer screwups with aviation.

But our society, lamentably, won't get off its arse to take driving seriously. It's like a self-destructive streak: because we constantly decry and bemoan the highway deaths that occur, and we mourn the dead, but do we change how we do the driving? Nope.

It seems a lot of suv drivers feel impervious, so they don't drive defensively. They seem to think anyone else coming upon them should yield to their inconsiderate driving.

"The crash happened when the Jeep driver, who had a stop sign, hit the 2006 Harley Davidson being driven by Busterna; the Jeep driver said he hadn't seen the motorcycle before the crash"

Blind driver ????

Think us bike riders need to strap 2 bikes together so we look like a car then maybe we won't get plowed into.

Looks clear and clean cut to me! I see it every day the driver of the Jeep did everything wrong! he did NOT yield to the right of way nor did he come to a full STOP as required by the big red sign! He should have been cited for both along with causing an accident with injuries!Maybe if he thought for one split second that he could be charged and loose everything for running that Stop sign these kinds of things wouldn't happen. speaking of STOPing! Stop talking/texting on your cell phone. Stop yelling at your kids in the back seat. Stop eating your french fries or egg sandwich. Stop putting on your makeup. Stop killing us!!!!! people don't realize how many lives are affected or destroyed by careless nonsense and rushing to get somewhere because you didn't leave yourself the right amount of time to get there. My 2 cents!!!

If you are stupid enough to ride your motorcycle here on Long Island then you should be prepared to get maimed on it.
Too many people, cars, shopping centers, bad drivers, poor road conditions etc.. But knowing this all and getting on your ridiculous 'toys' anyway so you can pretend you're cool is tantamount to Russian roulette.

You cant drive a motorcycle on Long Island. Your not even completely safe in a car either. Even if you are a safe driver, theres always other people doing stupid moves.

Not an OUNCE of sympathy, OR COURTESY goes out to the IDIOTS that ride 120 mph on the parkway in and out of traffic in packs, HIDING THEIR LICENSE PLATES...
Respect goes out to those who obey the law and the other drivers on the road.
You dont just get respect, you need to earn it. Treat others the same way you expect to be treated in return.

Been riding for 35 of my 45 years - selling the bike because riding on Long Island is a death wish. I was almost killed 4 times in less than 24 hours.

Car people - no matter what your thoughts on motorcyles in general - please keep both eyes open.

Bike people - ride carefully & do not act the fool. Avoid bringing injury to yourselves.

Be safe all.

Sometimes I think about opening my car door as those idiots ride the white lines on the parkway...
Think about that the next time you are doing it!
You might be trying to pass me 8-)
