The great experiment Part 1

There are 9 comments on the Examiner.com story from Sep 3, 2010, titled The great experiment Part 1. In it, Examiner.com reports that:

Last year, the Pew Forum did a survey, revealing that the main reason people left their religious affiliation was because they were not satisfied with their religious institution’s practice or people. Granted, it does not take a survey to notice that people are leaving your neighborhood church. On Sundays churches are half empty, leaving a meager collection to maintain the buildings and staff ...

from Examiner:

"At St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in North Andover, Massachusetts, if something does not change, the budget may last only 5 years longer. Then it will have to close its doors ...

"St. Paul’s rector the Rev. Stephanie Chase Bradbury points out,'The world has changed. People don't trust churches, and in fact usually have very distorted understandings of what the Episcopal church is ...'"

Smart people to face reality and actually attempt to change based on the needs of the congregation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Only people to afraid of God to trust Him will fear change.

The congregation "needs" an empty church?
Not very smart of them.

The "needs of the congregation"? Let's focus on our role as Christians and how to serve the world THROUGH The Church.

To seek self fulfillment is understandable but WE are to serve...not be served.

The swelling and contraction of the numbers of faithful is nothing new. Smaller, more fervent and faithful Christian communities are more important than large ones with lukewarm faith and constant appetites which need to be fed...be they entertaining liturgies or charismatic preaching.

We are there, primarily, to worship and be fed by Christ Himself. The centrality of the Eucharist is the source and summit of authentic Christianity.
