I have been to the farm many times and yes, there is sometimes an odor. But in addition to the piggery, Krochmal Farms also has a 4-6 week Pumpkin Festival, they also do Haunted Hay Rides and Winter Sleigh Rides. These events are so popular, kid friendly and more importantly, they have loyal repeat customers. People come back year after year. How bad can the odor be?
Those wonderful pumpkins are grown on a hazardous waste site , in Wilmington, MA.
Krochmal farms spreads the pig waste on their land in Wilmington and grows beautiful radio active pumpkins for you to come and enjoy at their Pumpkin festival!
Come on back,now!

Sorry everyone, this isn't a regular farm. It became a FACTORY FARM in 2005:

-900 CONFINED hogs
-A half-million gallon (pure) waste tank - less than 200 yards from neighbors.

This is NOT about yuppies.

This is NOT about regular farming.

This is about sticking an industrial animal factory in a neighborhood with:

NO permits
NO abutter notification
NO notification/consultation with Board of Health, Building Dept. or Conservation Commission.

Go to www.TewksburyOdor.org and read the correspondence sent to us by FarmAid if you dare.

I personally believe the nay-sayers here are phonies from the meat industry or good farmers who misunderstand what happened here. This "farm" screwed it's neighbors who once embraced it. That's just the truth.

Honestly, take a drive around here at night and smell how bad it is. The question of who knew what when is irrelevant if the farm is a health threat.

Not irrelevant at all. The same thing happened with the folks in Hingham on the South Shore, who built their houses next to train tracks that were not active when they built the houses, but now are the tracks for the Greenbush line.

If you build or buy a house next to an existing business, farm or utility that has the potential to be considered a nuisance, then YOU assume that risk.

If, as some say, there are ways for the odor to be more controlled, then how about the neighbors who are complaining about it getting the cash together and offering to pay for the installation of said controls?

You could try to work with the farmer instead of bitching him out for doing what his family has done for 100 years without interference from people who stupidly bought a house next to a pig farm and somehow expected to wake to the scent of lavender every day.

You and the rest of the neighbors need to become acquainted with something called "personal responsibility". You knew it was there when you bought the house - it's up to YOU to try to work it out with him - he's not doing anything except run his business.

Unbelievable... Wake up! No one is saying put them out of business. We're happy to live near the farm. It's in BOLD letters on our website http://tewksburyodor.org .
We are asking for a solution so a third of this town doesn't have to stink horribly. THIS ISN'T even close to a typical farm smell.
Typical farm smell? Are you serious? You wouldn't know a typical farm smell if you were trapped in a barn for 6 months! You sound like an ignoramus.
The only valid point is:
The farm was there first. You CHOSE to live in the vicinity of the farm. If, now, you don't like it - move!

NO ONE IS TRYING TO PUT THE POOR LITTLE PIG FARMER OUT OF BUSINESS... the neighbors want them to follow the law and not be arrogant about the bi-product of their revenue based business. They must by the law practice good manure management. You and your suggestion of moving is offensive. I pay taxes and should be allowed to ask my TOWN OFFICIALS to do there job! As should the neighbors. The Pig farmer isn't a good neighbor and neither are you!
Just the fact that you call him a "poor little pig farmer" shows your juvenile disrespect for the man. If there is anything unlawful going on, it would've been dealt with by now. People can't just move in somewhere and then decide that, because "they don't like it", an established business and/or neighbor must change to suit them. How pompous and asinine!

I lived in the town for 12 years. I live about 2 miles away and never smelled the farm until the Pig Factory was in full force.
I'm hoping that the posters who support the stink farm have a similar problem with their neighborhood businesses. Remember there are two sides of every story. Note that one side of this story involves greed and indifference to their neighbors' complaints. I smell the stink right now.
Boycott the FARM and the closed minded posters. I guess your stink doesn't stink.

Residents of the South Street area in Tewksbury are sick of the odors from Krochmal Farms and BMC Corp. They are a public nuisance. Residents can't air out our houses on nice days without the real possibility of having our homes inundated with these odors. They can't have a cookout, or play in our back yards with their children without the same possibility of being immersed in the stench caused by pig feces, boiled garbage and yard waste from many other towns. It is grossly unfair that this neighborhood is used as, and smells like, a dumpster.

Cry all you want(TewskburyOdor & co.). If you had a legal leg to stand on, something would have changed by now. So, it's a factory farm - that's NOT illegal! If you any legal grounds to make changes in the situation, then by all means, use them. If not, just face it, you can't move in somewhere and then make established businesses or residents change because you say so.
Is it just me or is this not common sense???

I have been to many farms. Yes there is gerneral stink. But, I use to bring my family to this particular farm every year for pumpkins and hayrides. When that pig factory began in 2005...we couldn't be there without actually gagging the whole time. It was like death. Thee year after it was even worse. We just stopped going.
