"State Deputy Jury Commissioner John Cavanaugh said the state will not continue trying to serve a criminal complaint against Michael Wylie,"

Brilliant decision!

The story has conflicting facts about the reason the man didn't show up for jury duty: P1 "he'd dead for five years"; P3 "was in hospice care ... at the time"; Title "Dead man summoned" .

It appears from the photo credit that it is a stock photo but shouldn't you at least make it a stock photo of a Massachusetts courtroom?(Wrong state flag) Lest anything else be misleading, we should not associate the picture with the story.

Of course the story is missing the story: Why did the State Deputy Jury Commissioner say what he did? Is there any law that should compel the man's family to assist the commission?

In today's world I would expect the "officials" ,upon receiving family notice of Mr Wylie's death,to electronically check the county death reports to confirm same and conclude the matter. This seems to be a "no brainer" action to me.
However,as normal with government employees, they really have no concern to follow up such logical action as it is apparently easier to just continue to send the notice of "jury no show".
In this case it is apparent that such "official" has used the lame excuse that the family was to purchase an additional death certificate from the county(likely in the same building as the official) and mail same to the questioning "official".
This is simply another government/ socialistic lack of action case as there is no competition with government job efficiencies resulting in lack of interest to do a good job.

This guy has voted many times by absentee ballot(no doubt), and the envelopes seemed to have burn marks on them. The family said he was dead and the jerk in charge wanted a death certificate, I would have LOL for weeks while these jerks went through the whole process with letters, deputies, a sheriff, etc; just because they could not take the word of a citizen. How do we know the jerk in charge was really in charge? fxxxing idiots.
