sorry to see people lose their jobs, but i stopped buying lumber there a few years ago. the last time i went i wanted to buy 2 dozen 2 x 4s. i could only find 8 that were anywhere near straight, so there was no surprise they did close.

they claim the economy. I say their competitors were doing a better job. Better products, service and attitude. Carr Hardware expanded during this economy.

They won't have anymore sales down there, the scumbags will take the stuff up to Bennington and sell the overpriced crap up there. I say good riddence that they are gone the way they screwed this area over. I feel very bad for our local folks who lost their jobs, as well as for the local people who will now have to travel all the way to Bennington to have a job for those lowlife pieces of crap. The management are a bunch of dirtbags. The store down here went totally downhill ever since they brought that slippery snake Tony E. down to run things. He ran them alright, ran them right into the ground. Hopefully their Bennington store is not far behind. The world would be a better place without places like that.

other than the loss of jobs, it really wasnt a loss at all. most of the contractors avoided buying from there for two reasons -> way over priced and the materials were certainly not of the best of quality given the what they wanted for them. contractors would literally go out of their way and travel to new york to buy materials <- that should tell ya something.

good riddens greenbergs.

does anyone have a count on the number of employees they had at any one point? i know it would take them forever to get anything done. you could swear there was only but a few people running the materials outlet portion and even then they messed the order up. not one contractor i know didnt dread having to go there.
