Yes it happened! It was an accident! 9:00 at night is now very dark so both drivers and pedestrians need to be aware at all times! na citizen, why are you attacking berkshirerides? They are ADA friendly!! They provide special programs for the handicapped. I would think that you of all people would support them!!

if you drive you know a car or truck can not stop on a dime. before people cross in a cross walk they should make sure all traffic see them first and come to a complete stop before a person crosses the street. a cross walk is not a safe zone and it will never be one. i see some people that just jump out into the road. remember we were taught to look both way before crossing the street. does you car stop on a dime?

it is true that pedestrians have responsibilties to be smart about looking before crossing. but ultimately, the driver is required to stop for people within 6 feet of the cross walk. drivers often just hurry by these marked places and seldom look or give way, unless the person is actually within the cross walk, and then not always.

and by the way, isn't it wrong to take money for work you don't do? isn't that the same as taking welfare? doesn't tax money support agencies that advocate for the disabled? just asking.

I am not attacking berkshire rides I want to make drivers aware. There is alot of people who dont drive we should also be careful. slow down. People walking should also look both ways your right. When walking putting your hand out works to stop most people but if they are speeding they cant stop. I have almost been hit in the cross walk why are you attacking me. I drive and walk I look both ways when crossing the street. There are drivers who are SPEEDING!!!!I also put my hand out when crosssing the street..I also where red or orange at night...na citizen STOP SPEEDIND!!!!!

There are way too many crippled people in this City. That is all you see as you drive around town - whizzing around in their scooters or half-ass attempting to walk. Looks real good for tourists and people who actually may consider moving here. We should institutionalize this whole damn City.

YES Tax money does support my agency most citys have a disability commission We are to work with. This city does not have one. I have attended city council meetting even told the mayor I would do this job for nothing since I already get paid still nothing. I called my superviser told them they cant force a city to do this. I advocate for people privetly as well I will be going back to school...MY JOB TO MAKE SURE ADA IS UPHELD...Ma laws of 1972 made goverment law 1981..Since I am only one works here there is power in numbers not much I can do.All advocates are in greenfield and east. No one has wanted to stay here.Everyone who has tried left saying not wanted. ME I DONT CARE IF I AM NOT WANTED I AM PUSHY PERSON I GUESS HUH...One good reason I post here its called WORK bring awareness thru topixs...na citizen

But why did you try to start trouble for Berkshirerides? If you were really just concerned for safety of others, you could have been just as concerned by a pedestrian being hit by a van period! You are using an agency's name, that helps people with disabilities in a negative way. I question why you would do that.

that is if you can see the person trying to cross at the cross walk. if the pedestrian is coming in between to parks cars or a trucks how could you stop with in six feet and what if these cars blocked your view until it was to late and they walk out in front of you. the cross walkers should have to yield to traffic and make sure all cars are completely stop before crossing. yes all cars should stop for pedestrians then cross. cross walks are not a safety zone look both ways then if its safe then cross what is so hard about that.

oh. goddammm!-- get a load of this freaking post!!!! It started out with,'Well, I don't know if this is true or not, but i herd (sic).....'

now we've got people talking about how many feet a walker has to be in the x-walk before a driver should think about stopping!!!!!

Hey, let me rephrase that, HEY!!!!! it's like crossing the stupid street!!!!! You walking, or pushing buttons on on your automated wheelchair, wait for the light, signal to car drivers to go ahead or, like Ratso said in 'Midnight Cowboy', "HEY!!!!-- I'm Walking Here!!!"

I mean, really, has the level of pressing civil accommodation come down to crossing the street????

And some people wonder why we've become this stupid. Hey, lame nutz -- if you don't know how to cross the street without getting killed, STAY HOME!!!!

First... They are professional drivers they should no better.and they donot help people with disabiltys your wrong there. If someones in a wheelchair Wants to work they will not take them unless they can get in the van themselves. They only provide transportation to work or school for people who dont have cars or donot drive. For exaples my blind son WANTS TO GO TO MCLA. THEY WILL BRING HIM ONLY IF HE IS NOT ON A BUS ROUTE. MY HUSBAND WHO USES A WHEELCHAIR WORKS AT WALMART. IF HE CANNOT GET IN THE VAN HIMSELF THEY WILLNOT TAKE HIM. and again only take him if he is not on the bus route. or the bus is not running like 3rd shift...SO THE VAN SERVICE IS CALLED A CATCH 22 this is the only way the are ADA friendly. They provide rides to people without disabiltys most of the time. Who dont drive and are not on the bus route.DO YOU GET IT?...na citizen

The thing I always wonder is this. If the crosswalk is on the road somewhere, I assume you have to, and always do stop if someone actually steps into the crosswalk or it's obvious they are about to. They thing I hate is when someone stands in front of the crosswalk waiting for a bus, and you stop, thinking they want to cross, and they wave you on.
The times when I'm confused about who has the right of way are when you are at an intersection where there is a don't walk sign and a button to push for crossing. If you have the green light and someone didn't push the button, are they technically jaywalking, and are you supposed to sit through the green light so they can cross? If I'm walking and cross an intersection, I always wave the cars by because I don't really have the right to cross and stop traffic. Anyopne know what the actual law is in this case?

Lights rule @ intersections. Pedestrians have right of way @ xwalks not govered by lights.
