On June 17, 2009. masslandrecords.com reports that several dozen properties were taken for back taxes not paid, in North Adams. Some taxes owed were for less than a thousand, while one for for $30,000.00

If these people now pay, will they get their property back?

The answer in so far as I know is NO!--Once "taken" whether for back taxes or even eminent domain- the City owns the property----and it is their's to use or to sell-- or to demolish.---when in tax arrears the owner is obvioulsy notified and has an opportunity to negotiate a re-payment plan--- usually they just take a walk and abandoned the building----the $30,000 one could have been the former Clark Biscuit--- the late ( and former Mayoral candidate and local access TV talk show host ) Bill Foley--claimed he was running a Church in the building and thus taz exempt---the City took the property which was regarded as a commercial property---and at commercial tax rates

could have approached 30 gees----wound up in land court and the ruling went in favor of the City--- since then the City sold the property to Archway development which is renovating the building for affordable housing---as I said I could not navigate the website----but that could have been the $30,000 property------don;t take this as gospel----I could be wrong --

If taken for taxes any one can pay taxes and get land back My Dad Left me house when he died it did not have a title cause back in the 1950s people did things on a hand shake. So when I wanted to sell the land I could not if any great great grandson came and payed the taxes to the town of Ludlow Ma he would get the land and everything on it.I sold it to a development company.who was going to spend the time and money for land court.land court takes a long time and lots of $$$$$$$.More common sense so rag on spelling and don't forget grammar.Waiting for the person who will debate bad spelling easy to read that is if you have a half of a brain!!!!!!NO BRAINS HERE JUST chbpod

An Instrument of Taking is a lien against the property, so if the property is sold, the City gets paid.

Why go through all that trouble and wait to get the money?

So much easier and very profitable to legally steal using,"Eminent Domain". You steal and then sell the loot. We do it rather often here.

We look down on individuals who steal from the government, yet allow and even turn away when our local government steals from our neighbors.

It is the way things are done here in North Adams.

Don't you know, we hired some of the best crooks around.

you, takecare, sound as though you have had your hand spanked for either possessing condemnable property or not paying your taxes. if so, you reap what you sow.

long live eminent domain!

long live his eminence, mayor john barrett III. king of all kings. destroyer of slum lords, caretaker of the city and slayer of the opposition.

oh, and did I mention leader of the free world?

Wrong on both accounts,"care taken". So sorry to disappoint.

Destroyer of slum-lords? Him and his buddies are the biggest and best slum-lords in all of North Adams. He ain't doing too good at destroying. Then again maybe he is.

Our little guy is our very own,"Section 8 Housing King."

Lets not mince words here. Eminent Domain means; I take it because I want it. You may own the nicest house in town, if the government,(or the little guy) wants it, they take it.

You are correct about one thing.
Eventually, we all reap what we sow.

eminent domain is a very useful tool. if you can't take care of it takecare, you will be relieved of your civic duties. period! the king of all kings, mayor john barrett III will not hesitate to strip you of your property if you can not maintain it. it is in the best interest of the community that he take them away form folk like you so calm down and stay out of the way. the king has more work to do to clean up the mess.

long live the king! john barrett III - mayor for life! all hail the mayor for he is king and protector of the city from all slum lords and folk like takecare.

the king will huff and he'll puff and he'll tear your house down! oink oink little piggy the big bad wolf is coming your way and he's very hungry!

listen nad, you and takecare can each pack up all your worldly possession in a single trash bag, sell your 1968 single wide mobil home in wheel estates and go live under a bridge down south (it's easier being homeless in a warm weather climate). the king of all kings is performing a herculean task trying to rid our fair town of ignorant filth like you. i support him 100%.

I'm rather proud of my "68" mobile home.
It is mine. I paid for it.
I did not get any grant money to purchase it.

The way of your "master" is to steal property and have his hand out for his own free welfare.
Life is good in his distorted world.

Most of us in North Adams believe in working hard, and doing what is right.

Using Eminent Domain now would be a brilliant political move on his part. When are we going to start stealing property for the science center? Let's start in October. Let the elderly know their property could be next. He's only doing it for the good of the community after all.

He doesn't waste enough of the taxpayers dollars on his court battles. Still being hush-hush about that. No front line article in the Transcript.

Lets take more of the taxpayers properties and proceed to use the taxpayers dollars to renovate them for a profit, or demolish them for a profit.

It's all about the money.

Eminent domain is a poor excuse for a city to use since most city's don't use it anymore. It was used during the depression 1930S the more you talk the more I think no one should vote for anyone. The city stands still and the state takes over.Com mon sense.Go for rag on my grammar, spelling or overlook it and debate with me on this topic.Fact is eminent domain make people homeless in these tough times!!!!DEBATE?

In regards to the Bill Foley comment, the city prevailed in court without Bill getting a jury trial, thus the court ruling was invalid and userped! All citizens should greace their guns and wait for the city to come take their properties thus evening the score for Bill!
