Why is it "most" of the people in Soperton keep electing the same old people for office...any office? Soperton needs a change. A positive change that can only start at our elections. We have a sheriff that can't even quote the Bible verse he had on all his campaign signs. County commissioners who are sleeping with anyone that will have them. City councilmen who are drunks(and lets not even get started on our past elected drunks).

You are a little late with your post; it should have been written about 7 months ago during the campaigns. Treutlen County citizens voted, the results were clear, and now it is time to move on to something else.

Sheriff Corbin can quote his campaign sign scripture and many other scriptures. You must be one of those people who will never be satisfied with anything. As Socrates said, you are a little late with your complaint. You must have wanted to elect someone who knows absolutely nothing about law enforcement...now that would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it? You would have "change" all right, "change" you would be sorry about! Stop your bashing of our elected officials and do something constructive. You talk about change, well, it takes all of us in this county to make changes. With the world in the shape its in, we had all better ban together and pray for our nation and its leaders, and our local county and city leaders. They have a tremendous load on their shoulders and don't need naysayers like you coming along complaining and griping about things that don't matter.

Meant to add to my post: what does quoting scripture have to do with anything? Sheriff Corbin is a fine, upstanding citizen and and an excellent law enforcement man. Doing a good job as Sheriff of Treutlen County is very important to him, and he does an excellent job 365/24/7. Look around, you will see the results of his hard work. He also has a great bunch of deputies. Sheriff Corbin and his deputies put their lives on the line every day to protect and defend the citizens of Treutlen County. Please don't criticize these folks...back them up and thank them when you see them. Their's is not an easy job....

The deputies patrol the whole county, Mr. Joker, but then you know that. You just want to stir something up. And, you best be glad they patrol I-16. If it weren't for the sheriff's department bringing in that revenue, this county would be in a bigger mess than we are already in. Now, if they would only spend this revenue wisely, but that's a whole other topic!

Don't worry--President Obama is gonna fix everything.:)

Yeah we see what kind of "change" we are going to get with Obama. More money being spent on housing projects, medicaid, welfare and I could go on. People that have worked hard their whole life and are now retired can hardly make it but you bet your sweet ass if you've never worked a day in your life and decide to get knocked up at 16 you've got it made! You can sit on your ass all day drawing a welfare check and Obama isn't doing anything but giving these sorry excuses for a human being more money! On another note all these wonderful deputies our wonderful sheriff has hired don't do a damn thing. Every time i go up town they are parked on the corner talking, sitting their fat asses at subway and at the convient stores standing around talking while chewing their tobacco. Not too long ago I called in a drunk driver who went straight through the red light in the middle of town and not a damn one of them could find him on hwy 29. Once he got on I16 someone called 911 and laurens county got em. The only way they seem to be risking their lives is my eating their fat asses into a coma.

First of all, no one "let" the jail be dismantled(not sure that would be the proper word). The jail is OLD, and the county commissioners in years past refused to fix the small problems that eventually turned into large problems. When the jail was "remodeled" and determined to be a historical building, the problems were "patched" and had band-aids put on them. Structural issues and deteriorating conditions were not addressed; they were simply covered up. This is also true for the water and sewer lines in town; the old mayor/city council patched these lines all these years and now are having to pay the price for updates that should have been done years ago. These "patch" jobs have caused us to lose industries that might have come to the county and set us back many years. Next, the first Mercury Marauder patrol car was purchased with confiscated drug money; there was a message on the back window of the car stating so. Sheriff Corbin purchased a Mercury for himself because they are such good cars, and are equal in price to other patrol cars. Brent Walker in Glennville found the cars for him and sold them to the county at a very reasonable price. When the lady turned in front of Deputy Quick and totaled the Marauder drug car (and yes, it was the lady's fault), Sheriff Corbin assigned his personal patrol car to Officer Quick. When the sheriff purchased another Mercury, he drove it awhile, and then it was handed over to the new Chief of Police Luke Kicklighter because the city had purchased the car for the sheriff to drive since he was providing law enforcement for both the county and the city.

As for the deputies not working, perhaps you should get yourself a scanner and listen to the calls that the sheriff department gets and the quick response time to the complaints. They get calls on everything from persons locking their keys in the car to someone going 115 on I-16. They are quick to respond and are always courteous and helpful. Please don't criticize these deputies (men and the 1 woman). They get very little credit for the service they provide and they don't get paid nearly enough.

Last of all, I AM NOT an Obama supporter; I WAS BEING SARCASTIC. We were already in a mess before he was elected, and are headed for a bigger mess under his leadership. Just yesterday, he signed a bill loaded with pork barrel spending for his wealthy cronies. For example, almost a million dollars for a Polynesian retreat in Hawaii. Now in these tough economic times, should he be worried about a retreat? I don't think so. He is already doing things that he said he WOULD NOT DO during his campaign. Let's hope and pray he is a one-term president. I don't think the good old US of A can stand him any longer than that; we may not survive these 4 years under Mr. Obama.

As long as the tickets written are for 10 mph over the speed limit or more, and county cannot be designated as a speed trap. Most cars pulled over on I-16 are going at least 85. They deserve tickets.

Obviously, JOKER, you are in the minority. Sheriff Corbin won not once, not twice, but 3 times last year by an large majority. The vast majority of Treutlen County citizens are happy with him and his department. Isn't it time for you to move onto something else, Joker? Complain about how all our tax money is going to bail out these big companies that way overpaid their executives. Complain about in a woman in California who had 8 babies she cannot afford and who the taxpayers will support. Leave Sheriff Corbin and his department alone and complain about something valid for a change.

Just so that all of you nkow sheriff corbin is now putting the county in a much beetter financial stand than it has been in for a while. also there are 6 deputies who patrol and work the county while there are two more who do nothing but work traffic in order to turn revenue. i know this for a fact and you should get you facts straight before you run your mouth like you know what you are talking about.

no you will see come budget time. just because corbin is turning more revenue that does not mean that the commissioners will decrease taxes. anyone could realize this.

Whatever happened to protect and serve? Although revenue is a biproduct of aggressive traffic enforcement, the county should not rest it's financial health on that. The citizens should praise the Department for the quality of enforcement that has been provided and not the revenue generated through fines.

That is a helluva lot of pressure to put on a Sheriff's Department. The county should adjust taxes to compensate for budget shortfalls or reallocate funds.

Professional law enforcement is a skill set developed for keeping the peace, protecting the public, and enforcing the law. Never should it enter into a cops mind that he is making money for the county or each ticket he writes contributes to the budgetary shortfalls of the county. A mindset like that is dangerous for officer and erodes public confidence.

I agree with this but the board of commissioners are not going to agree to any type of reallocation of funds unless they are cutting innocent jobs or the sheriff's dept. However the two deputies that are assigned to traffic love doing what they do. As to the protect and serve aspect that is why there are only two deputies assigned to traffic and the rest take care of calls, warrants, patrol, and civil matters. I agree that all of the pressure should not be placed on the sheriff's dept but until the commissioners come up with an idea that is where it is going to fall.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
