It's the parents fault. who puts a crib by a window with blinds that use cords and not take action to prevent an accidental hanging? You can buy blinds now without cords.

My child may only be 7 months old but I check on her every 5min. when she is taking a nap. How do you let your child go a hour and a half without checking on them. And why wasn't this cord to the blinds out of reach of the child

There is a big difference in accidental death and A PREVENTABLE accidental death. She should have taken notice of the cord, and well before that day it happened. Accidents do happen but can be prevented on most cases.

This was NO accident. Any one who is a real parent knows better than to do this. Heck, even if you don't have children, you know better. You don't leave the cord around for your animal to get in. STUPID!!

I am very sad to read this story. I cannot remember a time that as a child and a grown up that I have not heard that cords should not be left within a childs reach. Also that running with scissors can be dangerous. I know I am not among the few that know this. I ask why the parents did not provide a safe home for this child? What a tragic loss!

I was thinking the same thing! I have all of our blind cords tied up in a bundle behind every blind (far out of even my reach without a ladder) because I have two cats and worry that they'll get hurt. There's alot more to this story. And what, no baby monitor device? What parent doesn't have that now?

I think it would be wise for all of us as parents and caretakers, etc. to remove cribs and beds away from the windows-it could save a life

Its not just the long cord on the side that can kill a child the string in the middle of the blinds can be pulled long enoungh to strangle them to which isn't so obvious.

Everyone that wrote on this blog is full of crap. You don't know the story, and you don't even know the person that this happened to. He didn't strangle on the pull cord, he strangled on the middle cords. It wasn't at his home, they were at a family members house for the Holidays, and the play crib wasn't place that close to the window. The women who wrote that she checks on her son every 5 min is full of crap. Your telling me that you don't sleep at all during the night because you get up every 5 min. to check on your child. I am out raged that you people would sit and write crap when the mother of this child is face the worse nightmare of her life. She loved her son more then anything in the world. God had other plans for her son, and he was able to save the life of a child that was dieing, because his mother had his organs donate. I would think twice before you write crap about people you don't even know.

Thank you! I agree with you so much. STOP PEOPLE! THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN EVERYDAY, AND SOMEDAY IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOU WOULDN'T WANT PEOPLE WRITING CRAP ABOUT YOU! Give the lady A BREAK because she's obviously going through a lot right now! You all should be ashamed of yourselves! Thank you very much Tanya!

I agree! So many people are quick to judge others, especially in times of heartache and trail. This is another one of those situations that we should sit back and be thankful that it wasn't our child! I do know of the dangers of blind cords, but until I read this story, I NEVER knew that there was still a danger even if you tied up the side cords. Now I know and now my children will be that much safer. I am sorry for the loss that this family experienced and I will be praying for them also.

Shame. That was a tragic ACCIDENT. But what about the mommy and daddy that were co-sleeping with their infant and killed it? Then another one?
Yes killed two infants. By rolling onto them and smothering them. First time didnt pretty much tell them not to co-sleep with baby?

Get a grip. You really think any of this was intentional? Be upset yes. But judge the parents? Calling them Stupid? Things happen. And how do you know it was no accident?
