Western lawmakers are upset over OKC Canton Lake water

Feb 7, 2013 Full story: Tulsa Beacon 12

Oklahoma City is taking an additional 30,000 acre-feet of water from Canton Lake which would only be a temporary fix for Oklahoma City's water woes, but the immediate and long-term impact on western Oklahoma would be devastating, with repercussions for the entire state, said State Sen.

We will now be able to tell our grandkids about a lake that used to be noth of Canton. Since the Water Resorces Board did what the did, it killed the lake. No more fishing, skiing, camping, family outings boating, etc. The indian tribes are working on a solution, and I hope that the members of the Water Resources Board all have problemsfindig water in the near future.
OKC wastes more water than anyone cares to admit. Why are they atering yards in the winter? Why are hoses at carwashes left on?
Thank you for kiling our lake.

Right you are. Are you also aware that all members of that board are east of I-35 witht he exception of 1. He is from Guymon and his last name is the only thing that got him that position.
Let's petition the Governor to get some common approach board members from NW Oklahoma to represent some different views. Right now, the board has blinders on. All they can do is bob their heads in a Yes motion. They don't want to rock the boat.

You conveniently overlook the facts.
OKC owns the water in Lake Canton.
OKC was created as a water reserve for OKC.
OKC is a little more important that
dirt farmer fishing.

No intelligent politican will ever agree
to your complaints.

OKC does not OWN the water. They own the storage rights to the water.
Canton Lake was NOT created as a water reserve for OKC. It was originally built to help with flood control. Enid leased the water storage rights for years until they signed them over to OKC.
No person or livelihood is any more important than another. These "dirt farmers" grow the wheat and raise the cattle that make it possible for you to have food on your table.
Shame on you for not doing a little research prior to running your mouth.

Further facts:
"Congress authorized the Canton Lake project in 1938 for flood control. The Flood Control Acts of 1946 and 1948 authorized irrigation and municipal water supply storage for the city of Enid, Okla. Because Enid did not access its storage rights, in 1955 Oklahoma City began a series of 5-year contracts with the federal government to utilize Cantonís water storage. Both the irrigation storage and the water storage were reassigned to Oklahoma City through Section 102 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1990. This project was started in 1940 but World War II temporarily halted construction. After the war, the Corps of Engineers resumed work, and the project was completed in late 1948 and formally dedicated in May of 1949. The cost to build the Canton Project was $11 million." http://www.swt.usace.army.mil/Locations/Tulsa...

2) Canton Lake was created for water storage.
3) Enid had their rights taken away by Federal Legislation
in 1990.

Dirt Farmer Fishing....My ultimate dream would be to meet the scum-bag who negativley refered to hard working farmers at a venue of you choosing to discuss your views in depth.
Let me explain.......
Venue would mean a place of your choosing
Hard Work would mean a job where you actually do physical labor in return for pay
Job would mean being employed by someone other that a person with the same last name as you have and beign expected to perform certain duties
Canton Lake just became a federal battle ground, and you my friend fired the first shot.
