Fine. Whatever you like. But, I'm still here. This time, a remark about "can" vs. "will".
Looking at this silliness from a broader perspective, you see it's about Illinois' "capacity" to support these foes of Don Quixote...for some of you, that translation would be "potential". Illinois is *able*, because the prairie majors in Wind, to *allow for* these hippie toys.
Okay. Sure. Yes, I agree. Illinois has lots of wind (as if we *own* the damned wind). Does this translate into windmills?
If you're Cairo or Mount Vernon or Shawneetown, probably not. Lots of space but no money and what the hell you talkin''bout, boy?
If you're Chi-Town and all its subsidiaries up to within three yards of Pontiac, probably not. You've built jails and railroads and subdivisions and Hucks, leaving no damned room--or, not enough without torquing people off, which one doesn't need to be doing, if you drive past three yards North of Pontiac.
If you're B/N (which, I assume is what this is really about)? Well. I wanta see our Little Rascals we call a Council, pile this bit onto the budget as well, claiming they can cover it (they can't even cover their hotel, but they're really adept at lying). Since there are--still--only 100 cents in a dollar, I'd love to hear their Spanglish on That one!
And, ya know, Buckwheat, ONE windmill isn't going to mean anything. You have to build these things on a really grand scale. And Ninny and Co., haven't left us That kind of money (you can't have your Multi-Modal's and eat the Wind, too). Yes, you can boot farmers from their land and crush historic hamlets with the utter fascism of Imminent Domain..but every bolt into a nut, every #whiz# of a bolt gun, COSTS MONEY. All the bicycles in the world, won't buy one wind farm. You've chosen your path. You wanted a prettier business district. It's debatable, but let's say that worked. Where Is The Money Coming From, Now? WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? Where? From tippers at our 9000 restaurants?
So, we can eliminate Southern Illinois, which is actually broke, Central Illinois, which has been Made broke (broke enough) and Northern Illinois, which is chockablock urban. That sound like potential about to be realized? It doesn't, to me.
Yes. Illinois...the fricking-Prairie...has wind beyond measure. We could conceivable build acres of windymillses, lots and lots of windymillses. We could conceivably have a lot of things, in our town and in our nation. But, we don't. And, we're not going to. If we get this at all (and God forbid), we'll receive a drib and a drab and a start and a nudge. Too slow. Too little. Too late.
We CAN...But, we MAY NOT. And, we WON'T. You made your choices, Gang. Hope you like your Mies Van Der Rohe crap. It'll be your legacy. Tied to a dollar bill.
