Competition Among Airports Bringing New Flights to Central Illinois

There are 1 comment on the WEEK-TV story from Jan 31, 2012, titled Competition Among Airports Bringing New Flights to Central Illinois. In it, WEEK-TV reports that:

It's the quickest form of travel today, but has the process of putting up hundreds of thousands of dollars to lure new flights to the Central Illinois Regional Airport been to quick for comfort? That was the main concern among twin cities officials Monday night.

Couple of points I'd make, which are my usual points on this:
1) The Greater Peoria Airport, was built practically in the days of The Wright Bros., on land that had only recently healed its wagon ruts. As a result, they have More ROOM for runways and--if they wish--terminals, than...well. It's an embarrassment of riches. Planes don't want your connection because you put your garbage in pretty cans or serve great salads. They want your connection because they have plenty of choices to LAND.
2) Notice, how there was actual *discussion and dissent* in Blm. and in McLean County, while Normal simply rubberstamped the whole thing like they were the Reichstag. If you ever watch the televised Town Council Meetings (which I encourage), they bear two solid hallmarks: Long, jargon-laden, Spanglish discussion which leads to kneejerk, lockstep, Stepford voting. In short,*The Normal Town Council knows what it will do, the month before they ever vote on it*. Your Opinion Doesn't Count. They're there to give your their judgment. Even if it has to be rammed down your throat.
3) Again, this is a recouping and a sandbagging against a System that is SO-falling apart, it's affecting even B/N. We're still pretty genteel here, if a little cow patch. We aren't ready to deal with a city full of crime...which, is what happens when the standard of living declines across the board. So, this may be a good idea, yes, but don't be fooled by spin. This Is NOT About Growth. It's about keeping you safe, when your poorer neighbors run out of other options.
