Apartment Management Companies are only too happy to pick up the slack created by ISU housing catastrophe! Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? I thought that only happened in Chicago!

We have the rest of our lives to "grow up" and rent apartments. I don't think being kicked out of dorms is apart of growing up and it certainly doesn't reflect the university's capability to care and handle their students when they can't even house those that need it. Not everyone is in school all 9 months, and it can be very difficult to find a 4/5 month lease (near impossible). They're putting students out in a difficult manner, at the last minute and it seems ISU's administration are the ones that need to grow up and handle the situation like adults, rather than just dropping this on students and telling them to deal with it.

I agree with the person who posted 'possibly transferring'. I am in the middle of a lot of my major and minor classes. It is a lot of work and it is important for me to do well in these classes since it is what I want to do when I go out into the real world. It is nice to be able to live in a place where I can walk to classes and don't have to worry about a rent check. I also agree with the comment about the first line of that letter. It was like a slap in the face.
I don't have a car to get around if the apartment I find is not walking distance to campus. And since they gave us such late notice most of the close apartments are all gone.
Its just really frustrating and unnecessary stress.

I know of a 23 year old individual living in the dorms. He's only a freshman because he went right into the army after high school, but he is getting kicked out too. Does he need to grow up as well?
Yes. If he's 23, he should be able to handle living in an apartment. It's nothing compared to the army.

Nice try though.

Well here's a 19-year old complaining (unless that is also too old to be living in the dorms). Giving us 6 months to find an apartment AND a subleasor (for those of us who are going to try for the few dorm spots) is just rediculous. And besides all that, I can't afford living in an appartment, since I'm already in a substantial amount of debt...
Six months is PLENTY of time to find an apartment. Stop procrastinating and start looking. You can find an apartment in 30 days if you had to...

You might also want to consider a job if you're in debt, too. Even a 2nd job. Face it, you're moving off campus. You can spend the next 6 months complaining, or you can spend it preparing.

Good luck.

this article should be updated about how we got kicked out today on FRIDAY with two hours notice to get our parents to campus, pack everything, and vacate.

Apparently you didn't read this back in February and plan ahead. Typical college kid.
