I believe there are a lot of cops out there who are crooked and misuse their authority. All you have to do is pick up the paper or go on line and you see it everyday. There are innocent people being realeased from prison on a regular basis because of police misconduct. The police protect their own whether right or wrong. Movie Changeling is a prime example of police abusing their authority to cover up their inability or disinterest in properly persuing a case.

Quote "The police protect their own whether right or wrong."

Do you realize that this is a news article about the police investigating and arresting their own, not protecting them? This isn't a story uncovered by the news which led to the arrests. The Chief held a news conference announcing the facts, after the police conducted the investigation. You might not like cops, but in this case it seems they're trying to do the right thing, and go after a few bad apples.

To those of you who think that this is an ucommon practice umong officers everywhere you are definately wrong..it is just unfortuante that the ones who probably hold the least amount of accountablity are the ones now being prosecuted. I know Gregory Dudley, and he is a very good person. He just made a stupid mistake, if anything. It is a shame that others in the community don't come foward and let it be known that they are just as responsible as he is in this situation. What really fusterates me about this whole situation is that people make stupid decisions and their faces are all over the news, and because he was a cop, people are saying he is a "bad apple" This young man has been honorable his whole life, and i am sure that if he did do something, he probably didn't understand or even know that what he was doing was wrong. Please remember that these indivduals have lives!

This department is incredible, they actually go after their own. It is unfortunate that there are individuals this way, but i am impressed by the capability of sergeants being able to go after their own. People may see it as "one did it, so do all." This is not true, i have come accross great officers in Norfolk, just because you got a ticket once, does make that officer a bad cop. they have a job to do, and we need control in our society. I am not trying to defend them, but with my experience in hampton roads, for the many years i have lived here, Norfolk Police Officer work twice as hard as any other surrounding city. they will eventually make a mistake. They are not troopers, where all they do is give tickets, they actually have to see the same individuals over and over again, on a daily baisis. Too bad that these bad apples did this, but not all could be blamed. Officers are pressing charges against other fellow officers, this is insane but neccessary.

Hey I have a thought, why is it that a police officer can not press charges when someone spits in his face, hits him, kicks him, calls him nasty names? One would call that assault! If a cop did these things to someone in or out of the uniform he would be placed under the jail, all over the news, all in the paper, he would loose his job, and be sued so he would most likely loose his home amoung other posessions. I say as cops maybe they should start to fight back. When the jackass who would sue you kicks, hits, spits on you, or calls you nasty ass names on the street, when you go home and take that uniform off, secure a warrant for their asses. I'm sure that most of you would say "he is a cop its what he signed up to do"! Not so. Noone becomes a cop because they want to be abused physically, mentally, or otherwise. They sign up because they are a certain kind of person that MOST people are not and they have a desire to serve the public! When they are either at home or at work the fact of the matter is they are still HUMAN just like the rest of us. They should have the same rights.
All of you need to remember that they are human, they may get a ticket from time to time for the same reason other HUMANS get tickets because they are human and they to have their minds on other things sometimes. The difference is that you can get a simple ticket and go home to your family and no one ever needs to even know about it. You let a cop get a ticket and he could loose his job, get his picture and name plastered all over the boobtub, the news papers, and talked about like a piece of trash by the very people he serves and protects with his LIFE everyday! I read some of these comments on here about the police and how some people hate the police. It makes me sick to know that one of these officers may loose his life one day to protect the very person who claims to hate all officer! What a bunch of trash we live amoung!
