13-year-old killed in Newport News shooting, another teen shot

Sunday evening around 4:19 p.m., officers responded to 31st and Orcutt Avenue. Upon arrival, police found two teenagers suffering from gunshot wounds.

It is really heart breaken. It got to be something done to stop all this killing. We need more police walking the streets in these high crime neighbors hoods. They need to be on the beat 24/7. Parents of teens have to be held accountable too. Parents have to get more involved with their children friends and activities. The community have to start educating them and discipling before it turn to murder. These murders have committed other crimes before it turn to pulling the trigger. First time offenders need to be made to do community work and their parents should have to assist them in it. The low income housing program need to implement some classes. They need to enforce them too. Violence is not tolerated and if so your parents have know where to live.

My heart really goes out to all the victims families. My heart goes out to the murders too. They think they are so tough and cool. Murder is something you have to live with for the rest of your life.

The anwer is very, very very simple. Stop having babies out of wedlock repeatedy. Get an education,then get a job, then get married and both parents take responsibility for their kids. It is NOT the governments job to raise your kids.

That is very much true. It is not the government responsibility.
However, it is a major problem that need to be addressed by the government. They providing low income housing so why not implement a program to help stop violence. If this was going on in your neighbor hood, i am sure you would want some government assistant. it will make it to your neighbor hood if it continue. So please stop and think before you judge. And i work for the government and live in very nice neighbor. I still care about other people.

This is NOT in my neighborhood because WE as a community will not allow it. WE are not cowards and tell punks that if they remain they will leave in a coroner's car.

You are saying that like everyone has the opportunity you might have. Everyone payes taxes not just you. It really show how greedy some people are when they get money, because you forget about everyone under the poverty line. You forget about single mothers raising kids by themselves working to put food on the table. Young brothers are taken by senseless crimes that happen country wide along with every other minority group because we are poverty stricken. A community ?
We don't have gated communities, or neighborhood associations that control minor spray painting problems by young kids that's mad at their parents. We got streets, and street signs and low income housing that you wouldn't get out and walk through if it was broad daylight outside. It takes alot for a young man to live everyday and go through some of the things out here. You talk about how tough you are but you not patrolling the streets protecting YOUNG kids that's still in middle school and younger from violence. You must first act in order to make change. For the better or worse, action must first be taken for there to be a reaction. Remember this young man, he is only a couple years younger then me and I know the struggle because I'm living it. His life is gone, don't put that on him nor family. It is the ways of the world, and if you aren't willing to help change then stay in your community and know you never gave back to us, the less fortunate. Where we are fortunate and happy to just eat and stay living with a roof over our head

Everyone does have the same opportunity, but some make bad choices over and over, generation after generation. Did someone force you to quit school, to make babies and not support them, to take drugs, to not get a job????

I'm 18 and seen many friends go by things like this. People who didn't do drugs and weren't old enough to buy a pack of cigs. I don't have a gated community or communist run association. I have a community made up of people who care about their property and where they live. My parents lived in poverty growing up and a poor neighborhood. They did not have crime because the families would beat the $hit out of their kids that tried it. If you didn't get it from the rough don't preach to me cause you know nothing about it you just have an opinion on what you think it might be like.
