Once I was a family member of a prisoner who stayed at the rehab in the mid 90s. I had an opportunity to spend a night at the hotel and felt that I was oddly privileged. A few years later my daughter joined a Sea Cadet unit that drilled at the Naval Warfare Assessment Center. I am not sure what I can do to help but I just joined the "club" at the foundation's website. I hope the facility would be restored and preserved.

I grew up in Norco form 1975 till when I left for the military in 1993. I was in the Young Marines in the mid 80's and got to go into some of the buildings but not the hotel. Camped down by the lake a few times.

I have alot of good memories of that place and would also like to see it saved.Maybe since the CRC is not using it anymore, the Mayor and City Council can petition the state to turn the propety over to the city. At least then the fate of the resort will be in the halds of local people rather than people that have never seen it. Just a thought.

No mention of the golf course that used to host Hollywoods elite!
Maybe it was closed down by the city to prevent kids from playing there!?

My father was stationed at the Naval Hospital. Although I was a child at the time, I am certainly interested in any preservation programs. Last night I saw the HH program and never knew all that the resort encompassed. Absolutely an architectural achievement that needs to be brought back to its glory. Thank you Kevin for all your work and dedication to this magnificient place.

I was watching H H on 02/07/2008 all I can say is
I learned alot from watching H H shows. But The Lake Norconian Resort was "AMAZING" I wish I was There. It was so Grand in so many ways. I've been going to the spa down the way in corona for years and never know what Wonders I could have found up the road.I will have to make it a point to drive to norco just to see this piece of California gold for my self. THank You. Huell Howser for letting me travel california from my home.

Hey Kevin -
I have a small connection. I was born at the Corona Naval Hospital in 1953 while my dad was stationed there while in the Marines. Needless to say though, I don't remember anything. I may have some pictures, I'll have to look.

How many residents in Norco would put up money of their own to help save the Lake and Hotel. I know I would. Or how about a MGM or any movie company chekcing it out to use for movie sets. The atmosphere is great, the grounds are great and location location location. Norco folks should be able to use the park and lake for day trips or rides on horses or bikes or long walks with kids and dogs. Let it be OUR park only, for Norco residents ONLY and our guests. We need to save this national landmark!!!!
hi ellen, i would love to send some movie business to the Norconian. i saw it on Huell Howser. could you get back to me with whom to contact.
i am an agent for locations to the film business.where is norco ?
thank you,

I too was born at the Corona Naval Hospital as was my husband, in 1954. No, we didn't meet there! I wish I could remember what it looked like back then! ;-) My brother was also born there in 1955. He sent me an article years ago about the Norconian Hotel being haunted. I believe it was in a local newspaper.Does anyone know where I might find it?

I have a beautiful limited edition lithograph of the hotel, clubhouse and lake that I painted in vivid watercolors. I can e-mail you a picture if you like. I also have a whole packet of information on the hotel including the article you're looking for. My lithos are only $49.95 and my e-mail address is: [email protected]

Just found this site. Kevin,it is so great that you are so involved with trying to save the Norconian. I have heard there is an area that can be rented out for parties? Everything I read about it says it is falling apart. Can you clarify this for me? My horse club is talking about holding a dinner there, but where???

Thanks.

A docent, or rep of the park, mentioned on the program that it is indeed open to the public. If that is the case, I'm there.
I would like to know if it is open too can someone answer this? please!

Was stationed at U. S. Naval Hospital, Corona, CA where I met and later married a Navy Nurse. 53 years and we are still "discussing" who will do the dishes. Have kept in touch with several of the people we knew there and sadly the list grows shorter. Thanks to Kevin Bash for his efforts re the restoration/renewal of a beautiful place.

i am retired now but when i received my certification in substance abuse counseling, my first job as a counselor was at walden house, yard 4 womens, yard that was from 2003-2005, at that time the hotel part had already been closed off but the old barracks were still being used for inmates. i will never forget the stairs that led from the parking lot, lake side , front entrance, up the hill to the 4 yard. what a hall. but that is not my only connection with the hotel. as it seems that life is a continual circle, when i was very young and married, it just so happened that i was unaware of the fact that my husband was an addict and had served time at crc. shortly after we were married he relapsed and was returned to crc for a dry-out and i visited him there. he was in the wooden barracks so i did not see much else. also, at the same time i had ran into an old old friend who had also become an addict and not long after that she was incarcerated at crc. at that time they women were housed in the hotel section and i visited her there on several occasions. i was amazed at the beauty of the building and the way that the women kept it so clean, the black and white marble tiled dining room was the visiting room at that time. as an after thought, that was the last time my husband did any time at all and he was able with the help of friends and family to remain clean and was clean at his death in 1994. my girlfriend, i am sad to say was not so lucky and in the ensuring years i have lost contact with her. gee, wonder if that is why in 2002 i returned to school to become a counselor. i would love to be updated on any aspects of the norconian or crc if possible, thank you so much

I was surprised that of all the postings no one had been a prisioner there.Well I was in 1990 and 1991.I lived on the third floor south wing.We called it the Hilton and the barracks area the Ghetto.
The hotel was one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen and I am so sorry to hear of it's plight.
I use to set on a bench in front of the hotel and imagen what an amazing place it must have been. And the swimmimg pool...wow!!!!The hall ways downstairs where the offices, and classrooms were located was so quite..you could hear others breath.
Needless to say I have been in the hotel buisness now for over 20 years and think of the grand hotel often.
My life forever changed while living there and I so pray it will be able to be restored.
