Keep alcohol sales legal but tax the bejeebus out of it and you can afford your own singing-dancing rehab.

Banning it altogether doesn't get rid of the drinking problem of the individuals, you are just making some other community deal with it.

Nome Alaska just made my top 10 list of places to visit before I die.
Here’s what a vacation brochure would sound like for this place:

What a glorious vacation destination Nome, Alaska makes as you stroll down the vomit puddle laden streets to do a little window shopping with the family. "Just hop over him.", says dad, as lil' Johnny comes upon a drunken man passed out in a puddle of his own puke from a night of binge drinking.

Let’s here what some of the people who have recently visited Nome have to say:

“When I come to Nome I got alcohol problems," Newman Savetilik said with eyes half-shut. "I'm not like that in Shaktoolik."

"The level of alcoholism is intense," said Greg Smith

With Alcohol sales the range of approximately half of Nome’s $11 million budget, it no wonder Nome is quickly becoming the most desired vacation destination in the world

While alcohol use is a problem for some in Nome, the story greatly exaggerates the problem. I moved moved to Nome thinking I was only going to stay for two years. It has now been eight years and I am a homeowner to boot. This is a very common story for this town, which is filled with many smart, talented, and generous individuals that give us a wonderful quality of life. I can't imagine living anywhere else. You should come and visit, you just might come away with a totally different image than the story portrays.
