Hey,
I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself and say hello, we recently bought 38 acres in Bonifay and plan on building three homes on the land in the next few years, being from the suburbs of Philadelphia I was so impressed on how nice everyone was, something I am not used too but here in the North. You really have a great little town that I look forward to my daughters being brought up in. God Bless.

Thank You, I was so impressed with how nice everyone was, like I said above you do not get that in the PA area. I am very excited about the move, I wanted my young girls to grow up in a more "hometown" environment.

Right in Bonifay, stay away from the big cities, I do not know how they are below the Mason Dixon but up here people are very rude, and they are all going a mile a minute....Just not my cup of tea. =D

My only concern is the snakes....HA, I do not have them around here, and I am not too fond of having to see them.

Welcome to Holmes County. Us "oldtimers" feel there is no place on earth equal to it. Of course you will have to look out for the undesirable element that would like to prey on your daughters. Thank goodness they are a small minority. Like everywhere we have a drug problem but the good is so much greater than the bad. Your girls will enjoy the schools, swimming in the creeks, and the beaches, 45 miles away. The biggest drawback is there is so little for the girls to do. Always been that way, I graduated high school in the 1960's. Look forward to friendly people and country living and you will not be disappointed. Again, welcome.

When I get done there will not be any undesirable elements to match these kind of issues that we face that's a fact !!

Jaclyn, I missed my chance about 7 years ago on buying some property in Bonifay. I drove down from Tennessee, looked at the property (land) and went back.
I never bought it and now I wish I had. I love North Florida. I would be interested again in buying some land there if I ever got an offer from a seller.
Enjoy and best wishes.

Don't worry about the snakes-worry abou the methheads....there is an art to getting use to the snakes...be sure if you run them over you brake and skid across them til they make a "pow" noise...seriously or they just don't die..they shake it off and keep on strolling. Also, be sure to watch where you walk and be careful of anything you pick up. There may be these fun little critter called "fire ants" on anythin you may pick up! They look innocent, but they sink like a hornet. In some cases you don't even see em coming...they made my eyes swell shut once and I looked like a Clingon....little jerks..apparently I was allergic.
Also, be prepared to drive and hour EVERYTIME you want to do ANYTHING. I gave up..I just stay home now...the driving gets old.
There is a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in town, I wouldn't recommend buying your groceries there..it smells like a slaughterhouse...there is a nice Publix in Dothan or a so-so Walmart in Chipley.
Don't be surprised if you meet people who have never been on an airplane. The common reply get is...why would I ever wanna do that? I'm happy right here.
Also, don't be surprised to meet people with a record. Small town....do your research regarding local sex offenders. I'm NOT kidding.
There will always be 3 questions...after the initial "you ain't from here" (which is NOT a compliment)you WILL be asked where you came from, why you moved and which church you attend. Be careful with the answers to these questions...:) You may be invited to 500 churches in the first year....
Don't say anything about anyone...they are all related. If you get bad service...just shut your mouth and go to Dothan or Destin or anywhere, just don't say anything. Also under of the category of "be careful what you say" anyhing you might say can make it to town before you can..lol. Word Travels fast here.
"Bless your heart" has several meanings. It can range from "you big fat dummy-why'd you do that" to a true feeling of "I'm sorry" but normally it is the first one.
You will learn NOT to be in a hurry. That was a hard one for me to earn. I think it was stressful to learn that I no longer had anywhere to be:) You'll get used to it.
On a brighter note..you will learn to slow down. If you enjoy kayaking, there are some beautiful places to kayak around Tallahassee. Tallahassee also has a nice mall and is about 90 mins away. The local rodeo is fun to watch, but you will see ALL of the Locals. The kids should bring a bag to catch candy. They throw a ton at the parade.
Have a happy move. Hope this is helps. It's just an honest account from someone who has moved here and lived here awhile. It's not meant to piss anyone off...it's just an honest account. Thanks!

I realized coming into this I set myself up for a huge culture shock, I just didn't realize it was going to be that big, I do belong to a church in PA so I figured my religious views were going to be questioned in FL. I like the slow pace of life but nobody in my family knows how to do anything slow, I think my husband will have the hardest time relaxing, he cannot sit still for a few moments. I really appreciate your honest opinion, and please if you have any other suggestions or things I should be prepared for, email me...I know no one from the area which is why I thought I would introduce myself.

[email protected] as you can tell, I own and rescue Pit Bulls, I am hoping like crazy they are welcomed in the area.=D

All the best,
Jaclyn
