Military Veteran

Phoenix, AZ

I am a military veteran of the Gulf War, Iraq and several others. I came to Capitan (which is beautiful by the way) to pick up a service dog. I am here for two weeks to train with the dog before heading back to Arizona.
I have a lot of interaction in town with the dog and for personal interests. I have been met with stares, under-breath comments and rude behavior. Now, I can deal with all of that because I'm not from around here but this morning took the cake!! I was walking my service dog and he urinated in the grass in front of the fire station on Dean Road. Out of nowhere, a gentleman driving a dump truck with fire department markings, drove up and told me "you have balls to let your dog s*** on my property". I explained to the man (white male, late 40s, bald head with a goatee) that my dog had simply urinated. He told me "get that dog off my property, it is my property". I told the man that my dog hadn't done any damage and I was sorry if I had caused a problem. He glared at me and sped off.
Here are my issues with the situation: 1) is t the fire department, City or County property? 2) isn't urine mostly water? I'm not sure what kind of damage urine can do. Should we rid the planet of all animals, as they cannot be controlled and urinate ate will on everyone's property. 3) should a man in a fire department uniform, on duty, driving a government owned vehicle, be acting so aggressively to a man walking his dog?
Please, I would like to hear your comments. Maybe as a Vet I should be in hiding so as not to offend anyone. Maybe as a DoD employee, I should be out harassing people. I'm not sure! The oy thing I know is, I will make sure to give my good friend and editor a complete event history of my time in Capitan, NM.

Dog urine can "burn" plants causing them to die. Capitan, aka Crapitan, is a place where people who cant fit into society go to live. I am sorry for your experience. Hopefully the Hillbilly fireman calmed down after going home and consuming his daily 12 pack.
