~~K~, I use my good ole American cast iron for most everything. I have some pieces that were my mother's, and I expect my girls to be using it long after I am gone, and likely their girls after they are gone, it lasts forever, literally. My only real advice is to buy a good quality of whatever cookware or bakeware you buy, even the name brands usually have some good quality items, and then a cheaper line, avoid the cheap stuff, it will not preform well, and you will end up replacing it, so you are not saving in the long run. As far as dishes and glasses, serving pieces, etc., just buy whatever you find attractive, no performance involved with those things. Only caveat there, if you are going to be putting something in the micro, be sure it is safe to do so, some dishes have metal trim, bands, etc., so they can't go in the micro. With utensils, buy the best you can afford, they will last a lifetime, and will be much easier to work with. Knives, get a good high-carbon steel, that can be kept really sharp. Whenever I buy a tool of any kind, for the kitchen, the garden, whatever, I buy really good quality, the best I can find, it is always easier to work with good equipment, the cheap stuff is just not worth bringing home!

i like my cast iron........i throw biscuits, cornbread and even brownies in em....my fried taters stick tho......i don't use cast iron for them.....but i just wanted a nice set of pots and pans.....i do have knives that has life time warranty on them, don't remember the name and knowing me i have probably thrown the warranty and stuff away....but my husband got them from a church that was selling them.....they do stay sharp and the spatula is a wonderful tool.....it is wide and i have never used one before like it....it does get under the food to turn it over....i guess by looking a the forums that people have other things to do lol.....the weather is wonderful..........but now comes the ticks.....

Go with cast iron as much as possible. Easy to take care of and lasts forever. |
