Just curious about what others think of the letter they got from George Aplogianis, who is running for an elected office this April,he doesn't understand how come something he did 24 years ago needs to impact his life today, he claimes he's been an honest law abiding citizen since this all happened. Well lets see.....George....you committed a felony, six counts of them to be exact and now you want Gov. Quinn to pardon you when your running for office? The law states you can't hold a elected office with felony convictions.Let your lawyer take your money on "false hopes" that you'll be able to hold your position,if your even elected,if. What the hell is wrong with this town, why can't we seem to get it right?
I would like to hear pro or con about this issue.I can't for the life of me fathom how he's brushing this off as "I was a stupid kid" stupid kids smoke, get caught drinking, staying out to late....thats what kids do....they don't place pipe bombs at businness or get into gang related fights and severly hurt people. I wonder if his children where to do any actions that he has been convicted of, would he brush it off as they're just being kids?

I agree with emnde, Mr. Alpogianis needs to remove himself from the race. Our village is harboring convicted felons. Mr. Alpogianis needs to realize several items; 1) He committed crimes against society with intent to hurt the general populace 2) Where was his father at the time he committed these crimes.

I totally agree with emnde. But I also figure it's par for the course. Wasn't Mayor Callero quoted as saying that "everyone makes mistakes" when asked about ex-mayor Blases' criminal activity? Well, I don't know where Mr. Callero was raised, but my parents taught me right from wrong and I learned as a small child that stealing from others is not right. To term Mr. Blases' behavior as a "mistake" is unexcusable. Seems very appropriate that Mr. Alpogianis is on soon-to-be-ex-Mayor Callero's ticket. I'm also appalled by the letter I received this week from Mr. Alpogianis with some of Niles' employees endorsing him. I have lost respect for those who were quoted in his letter. I used to think Dan Kosiba and Joe LoVerde were concerned about the best interests of Niles' residents - I'm no longer that naive. I'm backing Kim Biederman and I urge others to do the same.

I have no idea why my post says I'm in Bloomingdale, IL. I am a resident of Niles and have been for the past 25 years.

It's funny how all of you are so judgemental of George. Do any of you actually know him? I think it's safe to say that he is a fine upstanding man, father and citizen. He already paid the price for the crime once before. Doesn't our laws also state that there isn't double jeopardy? He shouldn't have to suffer again. And if any of you were at the debate, his opponents even said that he is a good person. He has done more for our community than most and that's what we should be looking at. Sorry that you are all blinded by the media and a bit of ignorance.

yeah, Kim Biederman who has former Mayor Blase to thank for this opportunity and who is in up to her neck with all the dirty Illinois politicians through her husband. As a matter of fact it is said that Lisa Madigan's (sleazy Chicago) political machine is in Niles working for Biederman. Interesting how Madigan, with all the important issues that must be on her desk, has twice stuck her nose into a small town's politics.

I will laugh my ass off if Biederman gets in. It will serve them right.

Well if the "sleazy Chicago political machine" can help solve the problem of the sewers putting water in the basements of the houses in Grennan Heights, I say come on down. This is a problem that Mayor Callero has been totally ignoring and it's time it stops. I'm tired of mopping up sh*t water every time we get a hard rain.

I suppose there is no argument there. i got water in my last house, fortunately not this one, and I know some who got it with this last big rain. You're right, it sucks. I would be worried every time it rained and with the size of houses here you have to use the basement for something. I'm not sure any of them will be able to do much for the problem though (even dirty Chicago floods).

Now that the election is over, there needs to be some clarification to who was working in Niles. I hate to break this to everyone, but the Madigans were not working on Kim Biederman's campaign. I know this for a fact!! This was just a false lie to confuse voters. In addition, the endorsements she received were not sleezy Chicago politicans, they were Niles elected officials(state and federal). Whether or not you voted or think they do a good job is a different issue. I think it is important to point this out so the next time this is put out there about a candidate who is running for mayor, residents will not fall for this again.

The two main voter issues in Niles in the recent election were apathy and stupidity. It's totally unbelieveable that the citizens of Niles finally got a chance to vote for a mayor other than Nick Blase and they failed to even turn out to have their say. End result, Nick Blase wins again - under the name of Robert Callero. We all know that Blase runs Callero and will continue to until (or shall we say "if") he gets sentenced to some well-deserved jail time. I have no sympathy for my fellow Nilesites - glad I won't be living here much longer. Kim Biederman would have made a wonderful mayor - it's too bad people believed all the false crap that was said about her.
