Now if I happened to be Eugene Powell from the above article, I would have arrived at the testing site an hour early, not late. Don't they ever learn!!!

I did the census thing for a few months in 2000. The work wasn't bad, but the supervisors were idiots!

1.2 million jobs at $13.75 / hour is $770 million a week. And they don't think that will help the economy?

Check my math, but if they only work 10 weeks, that's 7.7 billion dollars.

Better yet, it's job skills.

ONLY $15.00. That is not bad for what you have to do. Are you making more somewhere else? If you don't want it there are lines of people that do.

Where can I sign up my 1st grader.
It's not $18.00 to count. Especially when you are going door to door. There is a lot more involved. Don't be an idiot. This is not a job for first graders.

I did census field work ~30 years ago and I did meet a lot of nice people, but also some not so nice people. When doing field work, please remember these are the folks who did NOT want to fill and return their census data.
Paid pretty good for a college kid though.

Good supervisors are out there so its the luck of the draw. I worked from the Census office right by Midway airport. The supervisors were really good. The one that was overall in charge was an retired Army veteran. He knew how to get people moving. Towards the end of the job, workers from all over the city went to help out the office in the old Sears building near Roosevelt and Kedzie. Now those idiots on the West side were completely lost.

Any of you who wants to send your first or fourth grader to work in Austin, Gage Park, Marquette Park, or Back of the Yards is an IDIOT TOO!!

Asked why he needs a census job, he said, "Unemployed. Just got fired. Broke. Mad." This is not someone I want walking my neighborhood on a hot summer day.

How about... the INS {Immigration and Naturalization Service} ACTIVELY participate in the census? There's a CONcept for us, count 'em and simultaneously ship 'em out. Immigration to the United States - sure, HOWEVER, let's get real here. Unless and until we enforce our borders and our laws taxpayers will continue to subsidize 3rd world peoples whose very being in this country is a federal offense.
Who is kidding whom here? Any potential validity to either the {ever so costly}'war on drugs' and/or 'war on terror' are completely shown for what they are - SCAMS, since we don't enforce our own borders. We don't check containers coming into the country {for all intents and purposes} and there's no pretense in cities like Chicago of 'sanctuary city' status either.
Forget the census, what we need to DO is to deport illegals, enforce our borders, create FAIR-trade agreement [forget 'free- trade'- there's no such thing] and keep one concept at the forefront: America for America, no matter how many we have.

Let's spend more money to create new laws we can't afford to enforce. Makes perfect sense to me. America, land of the not so free and home of the bailout.

In the event they run out of acorn activists to hire, your voting record is the other criteria used to consider employment applications.

Uh......are they using E-verify to check the legal status of the applicants?

If not, it's just another scam on the American people.

that person lives in scottsdale haha, maybe they should get out of there if they think $15 an hour (with paid transportation) is too little pay for just walking around checking where people live.
