The problems in the diocese of Alaska which is part of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), were brought to light by the voluminous letters, emails and phone calls to the Metropolitan of the OCA complaining of Bishop Nicolai's actions. Due to these complaints, Bishop Nicolai has been asked to leave the Diocese of Alaska while the complaints were examined. Bishop Nicolai has refused to take a leave of absence and a new administrator has been appointed. If Bishop Nicolai continues to disobey the Metropolitan and the Synod of Bishops who have agreed with this action, then he will be suspended and/or defrocked. A truly unfortunate series of events unfolding for the Orthodox people's in Alaska, however, a tyrannical bishop who refuses to obey Orthodox Canon Law will be deposed.
