"Quick, hire another consultant to discredit nurses and say how we mismanaged, I mean how we are hurt by economic conditions, or the banks did it and the nurse don't understand these things because they are women. Oh, call the consultant quick."

A poor selection of a spokesperson doesn't change the fact that this is all about the money for the nurses. The general public sees the MNA's efforts and intentions at face value, and I can assure you that this person doesn't speak for me.
Profits before patients

Check out what kind of profits these hospitals made last year. Some close to 100 million dollars. Check out the salaries of the CEO's- well over 1 million dollars. (from financial reports submittd to the state of Mn) You are correct it is about the money for the hospitals- the desire to put profits before patients- it is a business afterall. Nurses concern is about having enough staff to safely care for patients. Hundreds of unsafe staffing reports get filled out every year- deaths increase as nursing ratios increase. The general public should care about that- obvious the management of the hospitals involved in the current negotiations do not.

I hear the hospitals really wanted Bernie Madoff for the position, but he was indisposed.
They will hire another mouthpiece to belittle and insult us, but we have 12,800 voices. You hospitals can listen now, or listen later, but you will listen. Go ahead with your "qualified"(snark) scab replacements and pay $6,000 per week, plus hotel rooms, and plane tickets. We won't be silent. Go ahead and give each cigar smoking CEO and his 8 VP's huge obscene bonuses that threaten your non-profit status. We won't be silent. Listen now or listen later. When someone teaches you all how you use "The Google" look up "patient safety". Or, you could just listen.

My condolences Trish Doherty! However if you had disclosed your background you would not have gotten this job. You know that by how long the hospital took to fire you. I believe in restitution but that doesn't keep you in the running for certain jobs. You see it is the additional consequence the judge didn't need to impose. Society imposes it and your recent employer imposed it. In some respects your lack of disclosure will cost health care more dollars by the amount they will spend on the damage control firm they immediately had to hire. Trish you aught to make a career going to healthcare facilities and talking about embezzlement! Not trying to be the ethical spokesperson for a hospital in contract negotiations. What were you thinking???? Then to MHA...Shame on you. Damage control is not an ethical way to spend heath care dollars. Hmmm greedy nurses?? or could we just stop wasting money on lawyers and damage control firms and spend it on patient ratios? This union is the last safety net patients have to protect them.
Please explain

could you please explain why at a time when millions of dollars in profits are made the Hospitals feel they need take backs from the nurses contracts. WE offered to keep the contract as is and they didn't want to so here we are. Please also explain why you as a consumer do not feel you need a lower patient to nurse ratio? Can you also tell me why you don't want nurses to be able to say their assignment is unsafe and they are unable to take another admit? This is what the hospitals are trying to implement. So if your about to code I am sorry but I just got an admit and need to go settle that patient. You will need your family to help you till I can get back. I question where you work if this is not important to you. Are you an administrator trying to sell your short staff in order to preserve more profits??? I highly recommend you bring a family member to the hospital with you and also bring your own snacks because they have also cut those as well. Just in case your loved one has a low blood sugar be sure to have left some OJ for them. The refrigerators at UNITED are EMPTY.
